AT&T no longer promoting iPhone?

MacDailyNews is reporting that several of its readers are facing difficulties when purchasing an iPhone from AT&T stores. No, the stock levels are fine, but it seems that store employees are reluctant to promote the gadget, hiding them in stock rooms and giving other lame excuses like “fear of theft” or “it’s a Sunday”.

It seems that store employees do not receive as much commission compared to other products like the Blackberry. This is inline with analyst predictions made several weeks earlier over the immense cut that Apple receives for each iPhone on AT&T’s network. Have you tried buying an iPhone from AT&T recently? Appletell would like to know.

That’s exactly what happened when I went to the local AT&T store. I saw the display but there wasn’t any phone on it. I asked the salesperson if they had the iPhone and she said they did but there was a problem with the alarm system (whatever that was) and they were in back.

I asked about the plans (I’m already a customer) and she was kind of vague about it so I hightailed it out of the store.
