Are we expecting too much from Apple?

by Anthony Parkinson on Mar 9, 2009 at 11:14 AM

AppleI love to follow the rumors and guess at product lines from Apple just as much as anyone. I am proclaiming my fanboyism. I think I just made up a word. A bad one at that. Anyway I think that we have come to expect to much from our beloved folks at 1 Infinite Way out in Cupertino. They have absolutely destroyed the competitive companies on so many platforms that we come to expect it from every product that comes from Ives & Co.

Take the most recent updates to the Mac Mini. People were disappointed that they did not redesign the entire machine into a super computer in the size of a piece of bread. I admit I am being over dramatic, but my point is that they made the thing 33% faster across the board. That is significant to someone like me who owns and will be buying two more of them. They are perfect for my 12- and 9-year-old kids.

We cannot always get an iPhone or an iPod announcement from Apple every quarter. That is just not how it works. I am willing to bet that Apple is not done reinventing an entire product line (I am with everyone in wanting a “netbook”), but we seem to be expecting things Apple can not realistically deliver. I think Apple announced great updates to great products last week, and we should be glad they are still making things better. I understand that two years in-between Mini updates is a bit ridiculous, but we should take what we can when we can and stop demanding unrealistic product announcements.

You shouldn’t just “get what you can”. Apple will not exist if not for their loyal costumers, and they owe it to them to deliver amazing products each and every time. A few bad moves will turn everything against them.
