Easy Camera makes capturing the moment before it’s gone a breeze. There’s less than a second in between tapping the capture button, and having the image saved in your camera roll folder. With nothing else to distract you, what’s not to like?

After playing around with this application in different settings, it’s become clear there’s on really one issue with it. Unfortunately, it’s a bit of a big one. The quality of the photographs is not too good. Sure, they’re readable and you can easily see what you’ve taken, but not in great detail. “Well, the iPhone never had a decent camera in the first place,” I hear you cry. That’s a valid point. A 2MP camera is very basic for phones these days. So, with the low quality of the standard iPhone camera, losing even more by shooting through Easy Camera isn’t much of a bonus.

So, why’s the quality lower if the hardware is still the same? Easy Camera’s unique selling point is it’s speed. With less than a second from shoot to save, the shutter speed required is pretty high. Because of this, there’s no chance of any image stabilization, and unless you’re holding your iPhone perfectly still, there’s going to be some blurring—it’s inevitable. If you’re desperate to capture a moment on camera before it’s gone, Easy Camera is great. Sure, your image is going to be more blurry with less detail, but you’ll still have it saved.

As you can see from those two images, the quality isn’t as great as it could be. The amount of light in both is also lower than I’d like (both of those were shot during the day). Another disadvantage of Easy Camera is the fact that it does not store the photographs’ data—such as the date/time it was taken, and also the GPS location data, which mean’s you’ll have to enter it yourself in iPhoto. This is a minor feature, but is something that would nicely enhance the application and could possibly be added in a future update.

Easy Camera set out to be a quick-capture camera application. When I took the first photo with it, I found I had the same shot saved multiple times because I didn’t think it had worked. The speed is excellent and the application itself is a great idea. If the quality issues were solved or at least improved in the near future, this would be a “must have” app. If you’re looking for a solution to have super quick capture speeds and decent quality, why not try Easy Camera along with some nifty iPhone lens attachments.
