The first thing you’ll do when you launch Tweetie is immediately exit the app so you can purge Twitterrific from your iPhone. If you’re on Twitter and don’t have Tweetie, then it’s time to spend some money, because this is the best Twitter app available. End of review.
Just kidding, there’s more.
Tweetie’s interface is almost exactly the same as I’d imagine Apple’s would be if they made a Twitter app. It’s simple, it has everything you need, and it works flawlessly. Remember in Twitterrific when you wanted to scroll your list of tweets? Yeah, there’s this big stutter since the app can’t handle 200 tweets being scrolled up or down. Not here, Tweetie has that all covered. Your tweets are not going to diminish the experience. And that’s actually a big deal considering how 200 tweets go by like nothing.
Tweetie supports all the usual itemslike pics and locationbut it also allows you to manage more than one Twitter account at the same time. While most of the time I’m just twitter.com/JakeGaecke, every once and a while I might want to log into a different account for another purpose. It might not be a huge deal for everyone, but if you wanted to set up a Twitter account for a special event or something, you could do that.
Honestly, Tweetie is packed with features. It has an inline pic viewer and a built in browser for links. It lets you view tweets from people who are geographically close to you (and you can set the radius), which is fun. It will also show you the public timeline, show you trends on what people are talking about most in their tweets and you can even search.
Be sure to take a look at the settings in the system wide Settings app. This is where you’ll find theme choices and, oddly enough, an option for the landscape keyboard. I thought everyone wanted that. It’s off by default, so go turn it on right away. This might actually be a conscious choice on their part to make you take a look at all of the options you have, but I’m doubting it.
I really have no problems with this app whatsoever, which is rare. I normally uncover at least one or two minor annoyances, but I really haven’t found anything. You could say that having landscape keyboard off by default was a slip up, but you should be checking the settings panels of all of your apps anyway, so I say nay.
Update: Okay, I did find one minor annoyance. Turns out, you can’t switch between the landscape and portrait keyboards without flipping the preference. So, currently, you can’t just turn your iPhone. This seems a bit strange, and I’m hoping they update it in a future release.
I can easily say that this is the best app available for the iPhone as far as Twitter in concerned. This is $3 well spent if you love Twitter. It’s a no-brainer, really.
If you’d like to follow me on Twitter, I’m twitter.com/JakeGaecke and if you’d like to follow Appletell then go to twitter.com/Appleltell for all the latest updates.
