Super Monkey Ball is great on the iPhone and iPod Touch because it is already a hugely popular game, and Sega have combined the popularity of both the game and the console to attract even more people. It uses the iPhone and iPod Touch’s amazing graphics, power and the accelerometer to reach out to more consumers and let’s not forget - it is actually a pretty good game!

There are a few reasons why Super Monkey Ball is such a draw for iPhone/iPod touch users.  For one thing, it’s always exciting to see big developers like Sega reaching out and developing something exclusively for Apple.  The game itself is very intuitive, requiring almost no prior experience with any sort of video game; you simply tilt the device in the direction you want to move.  This type of intuition is comparable to that of the Wii — anyone can play.  The graphics of the game are incredible, one of the best on any portable console, let alone the iPhone.  I’ve also heard Super Monkey Ball is an incredibly challenging game, with many levels and worlds to play through, on multiple difficulty settings.  Finally, a 10 dollar price tag is not too hefty, making it a low risk, high reward type of situation.
In all, Super Monkey Ball is a great game for the iPhone/iPod touch and only really scratches the surface of what the iPhone can potentially do.

Super Monkey Ball from Sega Corporation is one of the hottest games for the iPhone/iPod Touch for a couple of reasons.  The graphics are absolutely incredible, and most likely the best so far for iPhone/iPod Touch.  Since it’s launch, it’s been the top paid for app in the iTunes Apps Store, which shows it’s incredible assets.  Having played the Nintendo Wii, the controls are similar and just as intuitive to play, so that anyone can join in the fun!  Sega Corporation has just brought the fun and excitement of the Nintendo Wii to a portable console.  Of course there is just something about playing a game with monkeys, who could resist.  The objective of the game is to roll through the many worlds available to you, one after another, collecting as many bananas as you possibly can.  Tilting the iPhone/iPod Touch in the direction you want to roll takes amazing advantage of the Accelerometer, one of the features of the that makes the iPhone/iPod Touch so attractive to many people.  Super Monkey Ball is unrivaled from any application every designed/built for iPhone/iPod Touch with it’s amazing graphics, easy and intuitive controls and small price tag.  This surely will be the most successful app for iPhone/iPod Touch until only Sega can rival it and make it better.  So long as Sega can take advantage of the iPhones hardware features, so long will Super Monkey Ball remain at the top of the list!  Thank You!

Super Monkey Ball is such an attractive game on the iPhone/iPod because the graphics are stunning looking to the immense 3D world on the touch screen. Plus, it adds a “twinkle” to my eye and gives my heart a “whrrl” knowing that I have the power of a DreamCast in my pocket.

In my opinion, the intellectual appearance of a classic console game getting appearance on a mobile device, especially a cell-phone is an evolution to the console scene. PSPs, Nintendo DSs, GameBoys etc. are designed especially for video games but Super Monkey Ball for iPhone is a video game that contains better graphics than the Nintendo DS and is on a phone! This is a milestone for Apple and iPhone/iPod touch. Proof that it is indeed an evolution is that other mobile phones will start getting a App Store-like software to mimick the App Store. The use of the accelerometer makes the game unique and fun. Another thing that prooves that this app is indeed revolutionary is that I took the time to write all this: I am not an Apple fanboy, I use and support Windows Vista but must say that iPhone and iPod touch (I won the iPod touch) are seriously a milestone. I already paid $9,99 for the iPod touch 2.0 software so another $9,99 wouldn’t be to reasonable for me. I hope to win this contest. Oh, and I’m 13 years old.

As the top paid app in the App Store it is obvious that this game is seriously the greatest. The sound, power, accelerometer and gameplay, the iPhone might be a competition for other consoles. The fact that it only uses the accelermeter as a controller makes it perfect for a wider audience. You won’t see a mid-aged lady playing with a PS2 but with only one fun control, just tilting the iPhone, anyone can play. The graphics, 3D display and the fact that you get all this on a phone make it amazing. So now the iPhone is, what, a phone, MP3 player, MP4 player, camera, photo viewer, GPS, 3G, revolutionary mobile internet browser, weather and stock updates, iTunes Wi-Fi music store, and a PORTABLE COSOLE!!! And it’s just any MP3/MP4 player, it’s an iPod! Games was the only thing left to make the iPhone incredible. Especialy Super Monkey Ball.
    I own an iPod touch.
    I hope to win.

  • I love my iPod Touch and, naturally, I just paid my $10+ to upgrade to the 2.0 software. I have been very selective about the apps that I’ve downloaded. I’ve been waiting to download the ultimate game and have decided that Super Monkey Ball is that game. It’s aesthetically pleasing, it increases in challenge and uses the wonderful internal workings of the iPod Touch to add interest. Recently a friend Tweeted that a study was done by the videogame industry trade group that says 40% of gamers are women and 25% of those women are over 50. That’s me! I don’t want to be left out and would like to join the “Women over 50” gamer cohort by being chosen to win Super Monkey Ball and becoming a regular player.

Well i’d like to play super monkey ball and I’ve seen some demos and what not it looks very cool.  But i really can’t say it’s the best thing since sliced bread.  Anyway I’d like to give it a go.

  • Aviv said:

Wait I don’t think iTunes accepts gift cards for games like Super Monkey Ball..

I think Monkey Ball works really well and is natural to the whole tilt control concept.  The fact that you actually feel like the monkey is on your iPhone/Touch and you are tilting the world is pretty cool.

  • Well, I think that because we evolved from Monkeys, we have a “holier than thou” attitude.  We enjoy coaxing the little monkey around corners and laugh at him being trapped in a ball, because we’re the smarter species.

But actually, I’m on the road a lot with the band Treaty of Paris.  It gets boring.  I really need this to keep me occupied in the van or at a show.  Seriously.  Long drives.

I think super monkey ball is very attractive to iPhone users for many reasons. First, the graphics are AMAZING. They are probably the best for any iPhone app so far. Second, its a game that people have come to know and love in the console gaming market, and they are looking for the same familiar experience. Third, its been at the top of the list since the app store opened, so its the first thing most people see when they use the store, and they are inclined to buy it.  Lastly, it just looks plain FUN! When i saw it for the first time, i went absolutely gaga over it, and I’m pretty sure that’s what everybody else did too. Anyway, those are my reasons Best of luck to everyone participating! Peace!

To me, I watched the whole keynote made by Steve Jobs when he unveiled the iPhone/iPod Touch 2.0 Software, and with that Sega unveiled their product, MonkeyBall for the App Store. To me, that was the next best thing that Sega came out with. (Besides the dream-cast :D )

This game has everything from tilt sensing movements, to live action graphics. From easy controls to non-stop-fun. This game is awesome, definitely the best game I tried out from the app store on my friend’s iPod. I haven’t gotten to the 110th stage, but I am excited to see that there are so many levels to keep me occupied for quite some time! The main and final reason I love this game is just because, its easy to use, fun to use and made by a game company everyone loves. Its made from the heart, and clearly it shows in the game.

All I can say is that I hope there will be more of Super Monkey Ball SOON! Being the top of the line since the beginning of the App Store’s release, I have been patiently waiting to be able to get it. Now is my chance! I hope I get to have my own fun without pestering my friend for his iPod every time :)

I think that super monkey ball is the perfect app for the iphone/ipod touch Because the tilting makes it so addictive that you cant put it down i played it at my friend’s house once and i just couldn’t stop. but then I drained his battery and he got mad at my because his charger was at his dad’s house and his computer wasn’t working. anyway I’m pretty sure that its the first real 3D app, maybe one day the iphone could become a gaming platform as well as a phone/music player.

all in all i think its the interaction with the device that makes super monkey ball so entertaining AnD So BlOoDy AdDiCtIvE! lol :)

  • Sega’s demo of Super Monkey Ball at the iPhone SDK Event had created an enormous hype among all iPhone and iPod Touch users around the world. Millions waited anxiously as the day of the AppStore launch neared. As expected, Sega had an extremely profitable launch day and even today, more than a week after it’s release, Super Monkey Ball remains one of the top paid apps in the AppStore.

With jaw-dropping graphics on a mobile device and brilliant use of the iPhone accelerometer, Super Monkey Ball features 110 exciting levels for one to enjoy. An addicting game to keep you busy for hours, Super Monkey Ball is definitely a must-have game for every age group. However, the $9.99 price tag makes it difficult, if not impossible, for a 15 year old student like me to afford such an awesome game. This may be my only chance to ever play this game on my iPhone, so I guess it was worth a shot.

It’s a monkey in a ball…two items that kick the Neanderthal in any man back to life.  What more can I say?

Having played super monkey ball on my wii, psp, and ds, I’ve loved the game since then and can’t get my hands off it. I think releasing the super monkey ball on the iphone is really a smart approach of the game company. With stunning graphics, super monkey ball fully utilizes the accelerometer of the iphone and sets high standards for mobile gaming.  While setting high bars for mobile gaming, this amazing game will not only encourage game developers to create more striking games but also push the limits of mobile gaming to its edges. Now, who says nothing is impossible?

  • tangie c said:

Well, let’s face it. People and their iPhones are very busy!! Work, school, kids, home, social life….AARGH!! The mokey running in the ball soothes us, because it symbolizes are daily life!! We’re all like a bunch of monkeys running circles in a ball most days!!!!

  • Three words: It… Kicks… Ass. It simply does!

  • Clayton said:

I won’t be able to comment on why it’s such an attractive game unless I win it here because I’m too cheap to shell out 10 clams for it. Other than that, I guess I would have to say that all the other super monkey balls were a lot of fun especially when playing with other people. Which, hopefully Sega will implement soon.

  • Kathy Conley said:

Because monkey’s are fun, cute, and these have been great games!

  • Lily said:

Because they decided to call it SUPER monkey ball instead of just monkey ball. Genius marketing!

  • Jason said:

OMG OMG Super Monkey Ball for ipod touch is awesome!! Just think about it!! A monkey on a screenn in a ball?!!!!!!?!?!!! That’s just insanely cool!! And you’re the one who has total control of it????????? AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • David said:

What makes Super Monkey Ball so great is that it actually takes skill to play. Sure someone can pick it up and get a laugh at tilting around our favorite four little monkeys, but the real fun comes from the feeling of accomplishment from finishing a level that has **screwed you over for the last couple of days** (and then giving that level to your friend so they will fall to their doom consistantly). Add that to the amazing controls that would catapult your monkey through the air if a pin fell on your iPhone (no sarcasm there, thats a plus), and the 110 levels to ensure that perfectionists a glued to their screens for years to come (just try getting those bananas), and you have a game that will actually last the test of time. And yes, this makes the game more attractive than any other game in the App Store since once you’re done, just play “quick play” and see how your great skills actually weren’t fine tuned enough. At just 11¢ per level, how would someone not want to experience this masterpiece?
