It’s about 7:15 a.m. out here on the east coast, which puts us just under six hours away from Apple’s announcement of the new MacBooks. Never too early to get ready for some new MacBooks, though, right? Stick with us here at Appletell, as we’ll be providing ongoing coverage leading up to the event, and will offer a live blog of the announcements from this very spot.

I wonder if the white MacBook is smaller, or retains its previous weight and dimensions.
Everything’s smaller, by the way. Macbook goes from 1.08 inches to 0.95. Pro goes from 1 inch to .95.

Steve’s blood pressure is apparently fine. And that’s all there is to say about that.
More about the environment. It must be hard to be Apple and be constantly criticized for that, since they’re basically the cuddliest computer company around. Michael Dell could squeeze a panda into his powerplant, and no one would bat an eye.

Okay, so it looks like they’re keeping the white plastic Macbook at $999, but the new metal one (with the graphics card) is $1299 and $1599
$999 is white, $1,299 is aluminum.

That’s one big flash drive.
MacBook Air gets 9400M. Slower than in the MacBook Pro but still 4 times faster than the current Air. Also, 120GB hard and optional 128GB SSD. $1799 or $2499 with faster processor and the SSD option.
Second model: $2499, with the usual upgrades: faster processor, more ram, larger hard drive.
Two models: $1999, 15.4 in, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, Both graphics chipsets, 250GB hard drive, slot loading super drive.

Man, Apple’s security sucks lately.
And it looks like the hard drive is going to be even easier to take out.
The other graphics card by the way, is the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.

Frame has half the structural parts of the old Macbook Pro
The new unibody uses half the parts and is stronger.

Okay, I’m back on track. The new MacBook Air is built from a 2.5 pound piece of aluminum, but the end structure will be only 0.5 pounds.

God knows we love Ive, but that could have used a bit more snap.
Instead of building pieces into the shell, they carved the Macbook Air from one large piece.
The new system is “strong” and “robust.“ The internal frame supports the system.
That’s the old way.
Outer shell supports an inner frame.
That’s the old method, anyway. I imagine the new method will be easier to blog about.
