01:06 PMKirk Hiner said:

Those crazy Brits. That wraps it up. Thanks for joining us, and be sure to check back with us throughout the day for detailed coverage on all the new products (as well as we didn’t get, I’m sure).

01:06 PMBill Stiteler said:

Also, “Jony” Ive has a thing for aluminum. Or Aluminium, as he would call it, being British and all.

01:05 PMBill Stiteler said:

So to wrap up: Macbooks: white still available at $999, new Macbooks with graphics cards at $1299 and $1599, Macbook pros with TWO graphics cards, no Firewire 400, and SSDs for all!

01:04 PMBill Stiteler said:

And we out!

01:04 PMKirk Hiner said:

Again, the tech geeks are going to torch the whole village.

01:04 PMBill Stiteler said:

Deflecting rumors about netbooks and touch screens.

01:04 PMKirk Hiner said:

Oh, and the mythical iTablet? Apple has “experimented” on it, but feels it doesn’t yet make much sense.

01:03 PMKirk Hiner said:

Check out our detailed coverage of the new MacBook Pro complete with images.

01:02 PMBill Stiteler said:

Theyr’e counting on more light from the backlit LED display to counter the glossy nature of the glass display

01:01 PMBill Stiteler said:

No big change in weight: MBP: 5.5, MB: 4.5

01:00 PMKirk Hiner said:

I wonder if the white MacBook is smaller, or retains its previous weight and dimensions.

01:00 PMKirk Hiner said:

Everything’s smaller, by the way. Macbook goes from 1.08 inches to 0.95. Pro goes from 1 inch to .95.

01:00 PMBill Stiteler said:

17” MBP getting refreshed as well.

12:59 PMBill Stiteler said:

They’re not worried about the Macbook cannibalizing the Macbook pro sales

12:59 PMBill Stiteler said:

Phil promotes the DVI connector over HDMI

12:58 PMKirk Hiner said:

That won’t go over well with the tech geeks.

12:58 PMBill Stiteler said:

Plus, they’d rather you buy HD from the Apple store wirelessly

12:57 PMBill Stiteler said:

No Blu-ray in the near future. Too much trouble to license.

12:57 PMBill Stiteler said:

Apple may have the nvidia card locked in for a while
not exclusive, but they’re ordering a lot

12:54 PMBill Stiteler said:

wow, a Q&A with Steve, Phil, and Tim

12:53 PMBill Stiteler said:

Steve’s blood pressure is apparently fine. And that’s all there is to say about that.

12:53 PMBill Stiteler said:

More about the environment. It must be hard to be Apple and be constantly criticized for that, since they’re basically the cuddliest computer company around. Michael Dell could squeeze a panda into his powerplant, and no one would bat an eye.

12:51 PMBill Stiteler said:

did anyone hear when the Macbook is available?

12:51 PMKirk Hiner said:

Need for Speed on the MacBook. I’m weeping over here. I’m weeping like school child.

12:50 PMKirk Hiner said:

Seriously, though, that glass to edge monitor is fantastic.

12:49 PMKirk Hiner said:

Turning the brick into a computer shell is an interesting procedure…provided you find such procedures interesting.

12:49 PMBill Stiteler said:

Perhaps with two British chipmunks running around, looking for their tree.

12:48 PMBill Stiteler said:

“A trip through the powerhouse” should be playing here.

12:47 PMKirk Hiner said:

More on the “brick” now. Or “block.“ Or “chunk of aluminum.“ Whatever you want to call it.

12:47 PMKirk Hiner said:

And they’re not even the good ones.

12:47 PMBill Stiteler said:

SSD option on Macbook Family

12:47 PMKirk Hiner said:

Has Steve even ever heard a band? Because he seems to think that only three exist.

12:46 PMBill Stiteler said:

Everything Sounds Like Coldplay Now

12:45 PMKirk Hiner said:

MacBooks will ship tomorrow. No talk of Blu-ray, not even as BTO.

12:44 PMBill Stiteler said:

Okay, so it looks like they’re keeping the white plastic Macbook at $999, but the new metal one (with the graphics card) is $1299 and $1599

12:44 PMKirk Hiner said:

$999 is white, $1,299 is aluminum.

12:44 PMBill Stiteler said:

No more black Macbook?

12:43 PMKirk Hiner said:

I’ll take the $1,299 price tag. Where do I place my order?

12:42 PMKirk Hiner said:

He needs to play down the eco angle, but Greenpeace will still find a way to hate it.

12:42 PMBill Stiteler said:

This one gets a gold medal for “greeness”

12:42 PMBill Stiteler said:

More on the eco-friendly angle. Also, Steve Jobs hates me.

12:41 PMKirk Hiner said:

Five times the graphics performance.

12:41 PMKirk Hiner said:

NVIDIA 9400M chipset.

12:41 PMBill Stiteler said:

NVIDIA 9400M chipset in the Macbook! AAAAAAAAARghg!

12:41 PMKirk Hiner said:

Nvidia!

12:40 PMKirk Hiner said:

Eliminates 60% of the major structural parts. Glass trackpad.

12:40 PMBill Stiteler said:

It’s a baby Macbook Pro, down to the glass trackpad

12:40 PMKirk Hiner said:

Glass to corner = sweet.

12:40 PMBill Stiteler said:

Metal enclosure

12:39 PMKirk Hiner said:

MacBook is best selling Mac ever? Even better than the Quadra?

12:39 PMBill Stiteler said:

LED backlit display in Macbook, along with faster graphics.

12:39 PMKirk Hiner said:

1920x1200 pixel resolution. The usual stuff, otherwise. camera, USB hub, speakers, etc.

12:39 PMBill Stiteler said:

Macbook now $999

12:38 PMKirk Hiner said:

24” LED backlit monitor for $899 in November.

12:38 PMBill Stiteler said:

MacBook is the best selling Mac ever

12:38 PMBill Stiteler said:

Oh.

12:37 PMBill Stiteler said:

I can’t imagine they’d close with a Macbook… are we going to get nooged?

12:37 PMBill Stiteler said:

Macbook Air in November

12:37 PMBill Stiteler said:

That’s one big flash drive.

12:36 PMKirk Hiner said:

MacBook Air gets 9400M. Slower than in the MacBook Pro but still 4 times faster than the current Air. Also, 120GB hard and optional 128GB SSD. $1799 or $2499 with faster processor and the SSD option.

12:35 PMKirk Hiner said:

Second model: $2499, with the usual upgrades: faster processor, more ram, larger hard drive.

12:34 PMKirk Hiner said:

Two models: $1999, 15.4 in, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, Both graphics chipsets, 250GB hard drive, slot loading super drive.

12:34 PMBill Stiteler said:

Two models, both shipping today

12:33 PMBill Stiteler said:

Man, Apple’s security sucks lately.

12:33 PMBill Stiteler said:

And it looks like the hard drive is going to be even easier to take out.

12:32 PMKirk Hiner said:

The other graphics card by the way, is the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.

12:32 PMBill Stiteler said:

analog and optical digital on the audio side

12:32 PMBill Stiteler said:

Mini port replaces full DVI out

12:31 PMBill Stiteler said:

No firewire 400 on the Pro

12:31 PMKirk Hiner said:

Take your pick: performance or battery life. Will even one get in the MacBook?

12:31 PMBill Stiteler said:

9600M GT: 32 parallel graphics cores, 120 Gigaflops and 512MB video memory

12:30 PMBill Stiteler said:

Whoa whoa whoa… two graphics cards?

12:30 PMBill Stiteler said:

Upgrade available for the Nvidia card… Not sure at thsi point if either is going to be in the Macbook.

12:29 PMBill Stiteler said:

More graphics card news

12:29 PMKirk Hiner said:

Because I totally forgot my offering envelope.

12:28 PMKirk Hiner said:

Is this the alumnium frame Steve’s passing around, or are we supposed to be tithing?

12:27 PMBill Stiteler said:

Individual holes for keys in the keyboard.

12:26 PMKirk Hiner said:

Remember, everyone, you can add your own thoughts in the comments below. Let us know what you love/hate so we can aim our post conference coverage to what you want to see.

12:26 PMBill Stiteler said:

Frame has half the structural parts of the old Macbook Pro

12:25 PMKirk Hiner said:

The new unibody uses half the parts and is stronger.

12:25 PMBill Stiteler said:

Macbook pro now has a magnetic latch like the macbook.

12:24 PMKirk Hiner said:

Backlit display = nice.

12:24 PMBill Stiteler said:

All connectors on one side?

12:23 PMKirk Hiner said:

Optical drive now on the side.

12:23 PMKirk Hiner said:

New MacBook Pro is up next.

12:23 PMBill Stiteler said:

Yep, you can now pinch and rotate on the trackpad.

12:22 PMBill Stiteler said:

39% larger trackpad, supports gestures, including a new 4 finger gesture (make your own joke)

12:22 PMKirk Hiner said:

Four-finger gestures!

12:22 PMBill Stiteler said:

No button? Aw sheeeeeeeeeyit.

12:21 PMBill Stiteler said:

Steve’s comparing the graphics card to Intel integrated graphics, so I guess that’s a confirmation that it’s going to be in the Macbook.

12:21 PMKirk Hiner said:

The entire glass pad is the button.

12:21 PMKirk Hiner said:

But now, we’re talking trackpads. Glass multitouch trackpads, to be exact.

12:21 PMBill Stiteler said:

Glass trackpad!

12:20 PMKirk Hiner said:

I’ve been waiting over a year for a real chip.

12:20 PMBill Stiteler said:

16 parallel graphics cores, 54 gigaflops graphics card.

12:20 PMBill Stiteler said:

If they’re putting this sucker in the Macbook, I’m going to be cheesed since I just bought one.

12:20 PMKirk Hiner said:

Oh please, God, put it in the MacBook!

12:19 PMBill Stiteler said:

Nvidia GeForce 9400M

12:19 PMKirk Hiner said:

Okay, I’m back on track. The new MacBook Air is built from a 2.5 pound piece of aluminum, but the end structure will be only 0.5 pounds.

12:19 PMBill Stiteler said:

Steve’s talking about Nvidia

12:18 PMBill Stiteler said:

God knows we love Ive, but that could have used a bit more snap.

12:16 PMBill Stiteler said:

Instead of building pieces into the shell, they carved the Macbook Air from one large piece.

12:15 PMKirk Hiner said:

The new system is “strong” and “robust.“ The internal frame supports the system.

12:15 PMBill Stiteler said:

That’s the old way.

12:14 PMBill Stiteler said:

Outer shell supports an inner frame.

12:14 PMKirk Hiner said:

That’s the old method, anyway. I imagine the new method will be easier to blog about.

12:13 PMBill Stiteler said:

I think we’re about to get Brick’d

12:13 PMKirk Hiner said:

He’s detailing how the new laptops are built. Hard to cover here. We’ll offer details after the blog. Lot of talk of aluminum and magnesium and frame strength.

12:12 PMBill Stiteler said:

Now he’s “Jony” Ive?

12:11 PMBill Stiteler said:

Laptops at universities at 39%. Beating dell.

12:11 PMKirk Hiner said:

Well, Jobs was back. Ive will discuss the “brick” method.

12:10 PMKirk Hiner said:

Jobs is back to discuss a new way to build laptops.

12:10 PMKirk Hiner said:

Three quarters into 2008 equals all of 2007’s sales. And in this economy!

12:09 PMKirk Hiner said:

Some go to factcheck.org and see if that’s right. If so, SWEET!

12:09 PMBill Stiteler said:

US retail marketshare is 17.6%!? Holy crap!

12:08 PMBill Stiteler said:

400k visitors to Mac Stores each day (around the world, presumably)

12:07 PMKirk Hiner said:

Mac has outgrown the market for four years straight.

12:07 PMKirk Hiner said:

I liked the one with that angry caveman. Was that Apple?

12:07 PMBill Stiteler said:

Tim Cook: 50% of Mac sales are to first-time Mac buyers

12:06 PMBill Stiteler said:

Personally I preferred the “pizza box” ad.

12:05 PMBill Stiteler said:

The “throne” ad.

12:05 PMKirk Hiner said:

Apple ads. They made PC users into stereotypes, you know. So unfair.

12:04 PMBill Stiteler said:

Trashing Vista is the cat running into the door of the tech industry. You never get tired of it.

12:04 PMKirk Hiner said:

Note to readers…we’ll bypass the iWork hyperbole and start reporting when the meat is served.

12:03 PMKirk Hiner said:

And get this…the Apple guys say their laptops are “far superior to anything else.“ Weird that they should feel that way.

12:02 PMBill Stiteler said:

apple sold 2.5 million laptops last quarter.

12:01 PMKirk Hiner said:

Today’s news is about notebooks. Specifically, Steve’s Hello Kitty notebook, in which he wrote “I heart Ballmer” about a million times.

12:01 PMBill Stiteler said:

Tim always gets the suck jobs.

12:01 PMBill Stiteler said:

Tim Cook is schooling us on the history of mac notebooks

12:00 PMBill Stiteler said:

Steve!

12:00 PMKirk Hiner said:

Hello, Steve!

11:59 AMKirk Hiner said:

They’re re-upping Mac OS Classic, then? Odd choice, but it’ll make playing Deus Ex on my Intel Core Duo easier.

11:57 AMBill Stiteler said:

Classical music? Oooookay.

11:56 AMKirk Hiner said:

I just sat on my keys. I hate that!

11:56 AMBill Stiteler said:

Okay, we’re all here, can we just start already?

11:54 AMKirk Hiner said:

This is about MacBooks? Damn. I’m going home.

11:53 AMBill Stiteler said:

Well, that was iPods. I mean, what sort of person cares about MacBooks, really?

11:53 AMKirk Hiner said:

Where was he, anyway, this time. Surprisingly quiet, since his accuracy last time led me to believe he was hiding in Steve’s closet for a month before “Let’s Rock.“

11:52 AMKirk Hiner said:

That Digg creator guy already shot that one down.

11:51 AMBill Stiteler said:

I am really hoping for an update to ColorSync today.

11:51 AMKirk Hiner said:

But Joe Jackson tends to wear shoes. How long does it take a quick change artist to get shoes on/off?

11:48 AMBill Stiteler said:

It’s like one has to leave seconds before the other one is due to show up.

11:48 AMBill Stiteler said:

You notice how you never see Jack Johnson and Joe Jackson in the same room at the same time?

11:45 AMKirk Hiner said:

Of course, you’re all welcome to post your comments down below. Let us know how you feel about Jack Johnson. Or Joe Jackson. Or MacBooks. Whatever.

11:45 AMBill Stiteler said:

How about “Joe Jackson?“

11:42 AMKirk Hiner said:

Words I don’t want to hear today: “And now, the spotlight turns to Jack Johnson.“

11:37 AMBill Stiteler said:

Steve should really do one of those slow-walk-to-the-stage things like Eddie Murphy.

11:25 AMKirk Hiner said:

Keynotes should have opening acts, like concerts. Bare Bones or Freeverse could come out and make a few announcements before Apple takes the stage.

10:50 AMKirk Hiner said:

Just about an hour to go. Hurry and get your MacBook on ebay and get it sold within an hour before the resale value drops.

10:26 AMKirk Hiner said:

Even at this late hour, more MacBook rumors are surfacing.

09:46 AMBill Stiteler said:

Remember to drink when you hear “maverick.“

09:45 AMBill Stiteler said:

The fine folks at Gizmodo have a bingo card for the event.

09:45 AMKirk Hiner said:

Apple’s online store is down.

09:05 AMBill Stiteler said:

Two, two, can I get more on the monitor? Two, two…

06:47 AMKirk Hiner said:

We just posted a MacBook Event round-up with all the news/rumors about today’s announcements. Check it out for a refresher.

06:22 AMKirk Hiner said:

Want to make sure straight off the bat that you all saw the newly “leaked” MacBook Pro pics. Excited? Indifferent?
