Apple updates Unibody MacBook Firmwares

by Jake Gaecke on Dec 10, 2008 at 07:03 PM

Apple has issued firmware updates for the unibody notebooks, including MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air. All models have two firmware updates available, EFI and SMC, both of which require system restarts.

Software Update Firmware Updates

To get the latest firmwares, launch Software Update from the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen.  Updates will be downloaded and installed, but it’s a little different then a normal software update.

Both updates will install utilities to the system, which are launched after installation. Both also require the system to shut down so the firmware can be rewritten. When the notebook is powered on, this will happen, causing extended boot times.

After updating the first firmware, run Software Update again to get the second firmware update. It’s the same process.
