Apple to release 10.4.12, yes that’s Tiger

by Nicholas Montgomery on Mar 6, 2008 at 02:51 PM

Apple to release 10.4.12, yes that's TigerAlmost all of us have switched over to Leopard, and Tiger may be getting its last update, 10.4.12. MacEnstein reported that “[They] have it on good authority.” Tiger was released two years ago, and very few are on this OS any more. I doubt this means that Apple will be dropping support, and they shouldn’t. Tiger is still useful to many users who use special apps that aren’t Leopard compatible. We can expect them to support Tiger for several years, but move further away from it and closer to Leopard. MacEnstein also reports that they don’t have any specific details on what the update will be for besides, “numerous bug fixes and security updates

I’m curious where you got your numbers for how many users have upgraded to Leopard. I haven’t, and lots of Mac users on the Mac forum I’m on haven’t, so I’m surprised at your “almost all of us have switched over to Leopard” statement.

I never mentioned any numbers of users on the OS. From watching the keynote and Steve Jobs, the CEO I learnt that almost more people are on this operating system than the previous OS.

I do agree that some people are on Tiger, but most of those users have switched.

Thanks. I only meant “numbers” in the general sense, i.e. what the foundation for your statement was—I know you didn’t give actual figures. So forgive me if I still need clarification: Jobs said that they’ve sold almost as many copies of Leopard as they did of Tiger? Is that how he put it? And that’s why you say most users have switched?

I’m not really challenging the claim, just trying to understand where it came from.

When the statement is made “Almost all of us have switched over to Leopard”, that begs the question of what the numbers of those that actually switched, ya know?  How many Tiger users where there before Leopard, how many of those switched to the new OS, and then how many new Leopard users are there?  Not to be mean sounding, cause I’m not at all, but just saying you based the statement on a keynote speech and Steve’s talk,,, well, that is quite weak “evidence”.  Thanks.  :)

Agreed - what a ridiculous statement - “Almost all of us have switched…”. Utter rubbish. I think many of us would like to switch but are waiting for a much more stable version of Leopard before we take the plunge.
