Apple’s China website confirms there is going to be an Apple Store opening in Beijing’s Sanlitun area, but doesn’t say when it is to be opened. It was previously reported that a store would be opening in China on July 19th , but that no longer seems to be the case. However, there are new reports that another Apple Store is to be opened on Beijing’s Qianmen Avenue shortly after this one and the conclusion of the Beijing Olympics. If these two stores are, in fact, going to be built, it will further increase Apple’s push to reach beyond 300 stores worldwide.
This is a step towards a stronger presence for Apple in China, as they have relied on Chinese resellers in the past. With the earlier news that the Chinese iPhone is coming closer to reality, these stores may be up in time for the iPhone’s release in China. Regardless, the bottom line is that it is great to see Apple Stores now opening up in the PRC.
