Apple planning October event to update computers?

At yesterday’s Let’s Rock event, the focus was, as expected, 100% music. There was some hope that Steve would pull one of his famous “One more thing…” speeches and whip out a couple of new MacBooks, MacBook Airs, and MacBook pros. There were also more rumors that said notebooks would half to wait until closer to the holiday season, and recent reports show that this rumor may come to fruition.
According to Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, an insider at Apple has informed him of an event that has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 14th. Although this man hasn’t been much for Apple rumors in the past, he has been spot on with recent Apple hardware roadmaps, and his latest prediction falls in line with the hope of redesigns for all of Apple’s notebook lineup.
As for the MacBook Pro, I feel this little item is the most eligible for a design overhaul. Other then the multi-touch trackpad, the MacBook Pro has never seen an aesthetic change; in fact, the design has stayed the same since the release of the PowerBook G4 way back in January 2001. Come on, Apple. That’s much worse then the Cinema Displays, which have gone their entire existence without a single update.
After that in likelihood of redesign is the MacBook. Since its introduction in 2006, the MacBook has never seen a design upgrade. Maybe this rumored event will show the realization of a new look for the MacBook.
Least likely for a change is the MacBook Air. Although Apple has been known to go for almost no time at all before issuing an upgrade, I’m not sure that the MBA is up for a change.
Finally, there is the almighty rumored iTablet. This rumor has been in the works for quite a long time, dating back to pre-WWDC ‘08 times. The introduction of an iTablet would mark a new page in Apple’s future, as many predictions show Mac OS X to end at 10.6 or 10.7, and, from there, move to entirely multi-touch user interfaces.
Although it’s a bit early to tell how accurate this rumor is, it does corroborate with recent rumors that Mac upgrades will wait until later in the holiday season.

You are probably right about the Macbook Pro but I think it still is a gorgeous computer. Every time I see one, I think it still looks like one of the best looking computers out there and not the least bit long in the tooth.
