Apple leapfrogs Acer, becomes 3rd largest PC manufacturer

applelogoMomentum. Apple certainly has it, moving up the top PC vendor list with gusto and ease. In the second quarter of 2008, which ended June, market research firm Gartner has reported that Apple had sold nearly 1.4 million units, making it the 3rd largest computer vendor in the United States. The massive amount of Mac sales was a 38% total growth from reports from the previous quarter. Apple now controls 8.5% of the market, up 2.1% from this time last year. In fact, Apple only had 6.6% of the marketshare very recently. By contrast, Acer, which Apple surpassed for the third best, took a 20% decrease in sales from last year.

So, while Dell (31.9%) and HP (25.3%) are in a comfortable spot, “fear” is definitely not out of the question.
