BusinessWeek claims to have some information that points to Apple’s plans to build over 40 million iPhone 3Gs during the next 12 months. This is actually even more iPhone 3Gs than the optimistic Munster expects Apple to sell in that time frame, 52% more.
Apple had no comment other than it expects to come through on its current goal of 10 million iPhone 3Gs in 2008.
The article goes on to point out that it’s Apple’s expanded list of countries selling the iPhone that will be fueling the the larger numbers in the coming months. The addition of iPhones for sale at Best Buy stores can’t hurt, either.
Until very recently, the real problem was being able to find an iPhone 3G to buy in the first place. So, with build numbers like these, I think getting an iPhone 3G won’t be the hard part, stomaching the monthly fees will be.
But if Apple wants to keep selling iPhones, they need to fix all of the problems we’ve been hearing about lately. Munster isn’t phased by the glitches as they relate to his predictions, but an iPhone that works as advertised is an iPhone that sells a whole lot better.
Just to add to the juice, Munster thinks Apple is going to announce cheaper iPhone models during Macworld in January. That would certainly help their numbers, but only time will tell how much of this is real.
