Apple intends to trademark “Cocoa Touch”
Earlier Today, the US Patent and Trademark Office published another trademark application. This time, they hope to get approval to trademark “Cocoa Touch,“ the code framework that enables developers to take advantage of the touch screen and accelerometer functions of the iPod touch and iPhone.
Filed in the Programming, Data Recovery and Analysis section, application 77558620 hopes to keep the name of the programmer’s toolset under Apple’s control. Speculation shows that the filing of this application may have been because of the fact that the same name was internationally trademarked earlier this year in the Services, Scientific, Research, Design and Telecommunications sections.
Scott Forstall, iPhone Senior VP at Apple, formally introduced Cocoa Touch along with the rest of the iPhone SDK at this year’s WWDC, and the toolset is available for free as part of the iPhone SDK.
