Apple discontinues 20-inch cinema display

by Ed Parry on Feb 19, 2009 at 05:01 PM
Apple's 20-inch LCD display, discontinued today.

Today, Apple released a notice about their cinema display product lines; in particular, the 20-inch model. The notice read: “With immediate effect, the following products are ‘End of Life’ (EOL); Apple 20” Cinema Display” and “All backlog will be cancelled and there is no automatic order conversion.”

Following this, Apple have stopped receiving orders, and have cancelled any previous orders that had yet completed. This move leaves Apple with only two monitors in its line up: the 24 LED display, and the 30-inch Cinema display.

Rumors are suggesting that this is a move towards refreshing the display line and becoming all LED powered. It is expected that Apple will soon release a 30-inch LED display, but for now, the previous model stands. This is because it’s now the only display that can be paired with Mac Pro and Mac mini sales. It’s also likely that a 20-inch LED display will soon follow, which would complete Apple’s display range and offer an all LED solution.
