Apple by numbers according to Steve Jobs

Along with the obviously exciting product updates and announcements at Apple’s September event was the familiar face we all know and love, Steve Jobs. After sincerely thanking the donor of his liver and Apple community for helping him make it through his tough time in dealing with health, he went on to offer some fairly interesting numbers about Apple and their products. Ranging from the iPhone to iTunes, they help to give an insight into where Apple will be focusing.
As far as the iPhone goes, there has been a staggering 1.8 billion application downloads (take that, Pam Pre!) from over 75,000 available applications in the App Store. If you ask me, those sure are some large numbers for a service that is only about two years old. Furthermore, around 30 million iPhones have been sold in that time, which obviously helped lead to those high download numbers. With software updates like iPhone OS 3.1 released, I imagine this will keep climbing as improvements are continuously made.
On the software side of things, iTunes is now the #1 music retailer in the world. With 8.5 billion songs downloaded through the product, it’s no surprise that is has made it all the way to iTunes 9 with some new features and exciting new concepts to get people to purchase even more music. These song downloads are spread across the 100,000,000 accounts now on iTunes which are making it one of the largest web stores around.
As you can see, both the iPhone and iTunes have brought tremendous success to Apple and will continue to do so through improvements like those just released.

The App store went live July 10, 2008 = 14 months ago |= about two years old.
It is very hard to believe the App store just turned one a couple of months ago. It probably will have even gaudier stats 10 months from now (its’ 2 year birthday).
