Apple announces the new MacBook

by Jake Gaecke on Oct 14, 2008 at 01:16 PM

Apple's new MacBook
Today’s Apple MacBook event saw the introduction of the new MacBook along side the new MacBook Pro. They share almost the same feature set, and as rumored, are made with the brick process out of a block of aluminum.

Apple has two models for the new MacBook. Here’s the feature list.

  • 2Ghz or 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 MB L2
  • 2 GB of 1066 Mhz DDR3 memory
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
  • 160 GB or 250 GB hard drive
  • Slot-loading SuperDrive
  • 42% smaller packaging

The higher end version of the MacBook also has a backlit keyboard. Both models are made with the new method of carving out solid blocks of aluminum down into a unibody enclosure. The new screen is covered with a piece of glass, so it’s glossy and there is a black accent all around the edges.

The new MacBook also has the new Mini Display port for hooking up an external monitor that also made it’s way into the MacBook Pro. The trackpad is the same as the MacBook Pro, as well with a larger area and more multitouch gestures. The entire trackpad is a button, and can be interpreted through software to function as more than one button.

If you’re ready to buy a new MacBook, then you can order them online today or buy one in store tomorrow for $1,299 or $1,599 depending on your choice of models.
