Apple and Adobe team up to bring Flash to the iPhone
Since the iPhone was released, users wanted it to have Flash. Since the iPhone SDK was released, that want only got larger. But Apple’s stance on the idea has always been the same. Basically, the iPhone isn’t powerful enough to run Flash. And if Adobe were to make an app, Apple would probably deny it from the App Store. Well, everything’s changed.
According to AppleInsider, Adobe chief Shantanu Narayen has the following to say.
“It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating,” he says. “The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver.”
So there you have it. An official statement from Adobe that Flash will eventually be coming to the iPhone. After all, the onus is on ‘em.
It’s still unclear how this will happen. Will it be an app? I tend to think (and hope) not. If this is a collaboration, then it sounds to me that it might be built in to Safari. That’s really the right route, I think. We don’t need more separate, perform-one-task style apps on our iPhones. But there’s still the argument to be made that the iPhone is not powerful enough. I actually have a good solution for this, iPhone multicore.
