Due to high demand from environmentalists, Apple has taken stronger steps towards making their products more environmentally safe. It’s beginning to pay off for more than just our environment, however. The latest Greenpeace rankings places Apple in the 11th position with a whopping 4.1 points when it comes to being more green. Greenpeace says, “Millions of iPods now have bromine-free enclosures and printed circuit board laminates. The MacBook Air also has mercury free LCD display with arsenic-free glass. MacBook Pros come with mercury-free LED backlit displays.”
This “Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics” ranks the top 18 green technology companies based on their policies on toxic waste, etc. This year, Nintendo came in at top with a score of 0.8, with Microsoft a distant second with a score of 2.15. But no matter what the score is at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that most of these companies are making a strong effort to become more green. I congratulate them all on their efforts.
