App Store free apps round-up - September 12, 2008

App Store free apps round-upWe had another exciting week of App Store freebies. Developers are again using the tools available to them by changing pricing, and it’s to your benefit to keep on top of the game. Sometimes apps are free for a limited time, and I’ve got two of them for you this week.

  • Air Sharing - This is my favorite pick of the week. This allows you to mount your iPhone or iPod touch to your computer as a wireless drive. It uses Bonjour and WebDAV for its file transfers, and works with not only with Mac but other “computers,” as well. In addition to storing files, you can view many common formats right on your device; like a mobile Finder. Better hurry if you don’t want to pay, though; this one is only free for about another week.
  • Kooaba Search - Currently, you can use this app to take a picture of a movie poster and get relevant information, like reviews and trailers. Soon to come is support for other objects like CDs and DVDs. I think this is a little more work than simply searching Google for the same data, but I like the technology, as it’s a glimpse of what it might be like in the future.
  • Package Tracker Lite - Keep track of all of the great things you have in shipment. You can track via UPS, FedEx, USPS, and DHL. So, pretty much anything you have being shipped can be tracked here. Note that this is ad supported.
  • White Noise - Here’s another limited time freebie. Let your device play you to sleep with the sounds of waves, crickets, chimes, fans, static etc. If you need to relax, this might be one to jump on.
  • Puzzloop Free - Get a taste of the full version of Puzzloop. This is the original looping-match-the-colors-of-the-orbs game. Shoot your orb to chain at least 3 orbs of the same color to make them disappear.  It’s a great game, but the freebie will more than likely leave you itching for more. Consider yourself warned.
  • Freebird - Here’s another app that tries to eliminate the lighter, glo-stik, and candle that you may or may not have in your pocket at the current time.  Hold up your fake lighter to help the band keep playing, and save the planet in the process by not releasing more carbon into the atmosphere!
