What is it?
Just in time for the haunting season comes this app that offers up plenty of scares. It has creepy sound effects, an instant haunted house, and optical illusions. With The Fright Factory, it is almost like having three apps in one.
How does it work?
The Fright Factory is available for both the iPhone and the iPod Touch, but only the iPhone allows you to work the sound activated scaring mechanism. The iPod Touch is unable to do so because of microphone availability.
The app uses an FX soundboard that has all kinds of ghoulish background music and sound effects. Kind of the fun part of this is that you can set your iPhone in a room and have it set to scare someone when a sound is made. So, people come in thinking the room is empty, and the minute they walk in….boo! A chainsaw or cackle. The sounds on the app include chainsaw, knife, bone crush, guts, werewolf, ghost, zombie, demon, witch, mummy, screams, and chains.
You can also use the feature which allows you to view illusions. It also offers a strobe light that you can play around with, changing the color (from white, red, blue and green), adding in background music, or even using it as a flashlight. You can also change the speed of the flashing strobe. Background music includes a haunted organ, whispering wind, pulsating piano, and ambient creepiness.
Features
- A variety of haunting sound effects to choose from.
- Several different optical illusions that you can use to try to scare yourself or someone else.
- Multi-color strobe light which allows you to change flashing speed, as well as use it as a flashlight.
- The ability to be sound activated (on the iPhone).
App it Up, sum it up
The Fright Factory is a fun Halloween app that will probably interest a certain demographic. While it’s not something you are going to sit in the office and play (well…unless you work for the Addams Family), it could cause a bit of a laugh on your part when you use it to try to scare someone. While I wouldn’t label it as one of the best apps out there, it is what it is, and has appeal for that. If you’re looking for some sound effects, it would probably be something you like. The strobe is pretty cool too.
Cost - $0.99
Worth the Money?- Just .99? Sure. That’s less than a buck to make someone scream.
