You know Aliph for their amazing line of Jawbone bluetooth headsets. Well, they’re at it again with the next model of Jawbone—the Icon—and it’s quite a special headset. Why? It’s the only headset other than Apple’s discontinued bluetooth headset to report its battery status to the iPhone as a, well, as an Icon.

Jawbone iPhone iconOkay, so while that’s cool, it’s probably not the most groundbreaking feature ever; but there’s quite a bit more here to be happy about.  The Icon has support for Aliph’s newest feature called MyTalk.  MyTalk is a service that allows your headset to install the audio equivalent of apps.  Things like voice dial, directory assistance (411), voice to SMS, and others.  It can talk to you to announce who’s calling, and you can even talk to it to change settings.  This will likely make you look crazy…

Crazy cool that is.  Have you seen these designs?  Not too shabby.  The Jawbone Icon comes in six different personas.  No, not designs: personas.  Each persona has a different design and voice character who talks to you.  You get to pick form the hero, rogue, thinker, ace, bombshell and catch.  I’m a little bummed that you can’t pick the design and persona individually, but honestly, all six designs are slick.  You can listen to each persona at Jawbone’s site.

They’ve updated the hardware to not only be smaller, but more practical as well. Gone is the cool proprietary magnetic connector that used to charge your Jawbone. This guy charges with Micro USB. And no more holding down the power button for five seconds to turn it on; there’s actually a power switch on the underside. There’s also support for simultaneous multipoint, meaning you can connect to more than one device at once.

The Jawbone Icon is available now at Jawbone.com and Verizon stores.
