A Storm in the Horizon, should Apple and their iPhone be worried?
Up until this point, Apple’s iPhone has been the only mobile touch screen device that has been worth buying. However, a new Blackberry from RIM may soon change that for many smart phone users. The Blackberry Storm, which has no release date yet, appears to be a direct shot at both Apple and the iPhone. With a large touch screen, nice camera, and even GPS, is this the first mobile device that will be able to compete with the iPhone in the touch screen market? Early predictions point to yes.
Interestingly enough, the Storm does beat out the iPhone is some important aspects. For example, it sports a 3.2 megapixel camera that can take video as well as pictures. This can be compared to the iPhone’s measly 2 megapixel camera which has no video capabilities as of yet. On top of this, the Storm could very well be introduced with Qik streaming capabilities. Although recent news would make it seem as if the iPhone will soon have Qik, too, who is to say that Apple may one day take it down from the App Store? Yet, at the end of the day, there is more. RIM has been around for quite some time and has built quite a large base of Blackberry (or should I say Crackberry) users. Could this be the phone that this large group of people decide to purchase instead of the iPhone? Only time will tell.
Despite all the competition Apple will be receiving from this phone, I still don’t think it is a bad thing for our favorite company. A little competition never hurt anyone, and the least the introduction of this new player in the market could do is open Apple’s eyes and force them to improve upon the iPhone. Who wouldn’t love a better camera? In my opinion, the impetus for things such as this will come from the Storm.
What are your thoughts? Will this device take a nice bite out of Apple’s potential market, or will it only make the iPhone better in the future? Is it too early to tell?

welll….... you forget to mention a few other things that is a huge selling point for the storm right now…
The iphone still doesnt have true mms and dont say email…
cause the storms email will be blackberry email… with “true push” technology….
Not to mention apps dont have to close so staying connected to a instant messenger isnt a problem… and most things you do on a blackberry have notification settings….
Dont get me wrong I have a iphone and I like it alot… but one thing the iphone isn’t so hot on truly is communication… most the point of having a mobile device is to get notified when someone is contacting you… not have to wait for a notification or force a notification “fetch”
One area to say that the iphone probably wont lose in is simply media…. the iphone supports a really good media experience from pictures to music to photo’s not saying that the media on the storm will be bad but I find it hard to believe that the storm will beat the music features of the iphone…
and one more thing.. Im pretty sure that all storms ship with a included 8gb card….. which for most users this is plenty…. and how about being able to change your own battery….. and buying a 16gb card without buying a whole new phone…
