Free Apps Roundup for February 27th, 2008

by Jake Gaecke on Feb 27, 2009 at 01:42 PM

Free Apps Roundup for February 27th, 2008There were really a ton of great apps to be released this week, so it was more difficult to choose the best apps this week, otherwise this list would go on and on and on. As usual, I’ve got a great selection of both apps and games. So, here it is, my list of the best new apps from the past week.

  • SlotZ Track Editor - I’ve aspired to be more like my editor here in every way possible…hey Kirk!  But I’m pretty sure that being an editor of tracks for SlotZ Racer isn’t quite the same thing. Anyway, the editor is free so you can make tracks and then play then in SlotZ Racer.
  • Wooden Labyrinth 3D Lite - It’s like Labyrinth, only way better. I’ve always thought Labyrinth should have been in 3D in the first place, and now you can have it that way. This version comes with 10 levels.
  • Wobble Lite - I heard somewhere that Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down. I’m doubting that was the inspiration for this app, and I’m also doubting that I need to explain this one any further. The only limitation is that you can only save one Wobble per hour.
  • Aquo Moto Racing Lite - This instantly reminded me of Wave Race 64 and all of the blisters I got as a result of playing that game. No blisters here, though, thanks to the lack of an N64 controller! You get to try out 1 Championship on Novice for free.
  • Free Counter - This one counts down the time remaining until a future date. I say, get yourself an iPhone stand and set this up for the end of the work day to make it that much slower!
  • NANO Lite - It’s a demo for a particle flow puzzler with ambient music composition. It’s supposedly both relaxing and fun. Looks very interesting.
  • AIM - This isn’t newly released, but AOL did update their IM client for the iPhone. It’s got some new features, and I’m choosing to start with the ads! Yay, ads! Ok, I’m done. Now you can stay logged into your account for a full 24 hours (even when the app is closed) and receive your messages via SMS. Careful, this could get expensive. Alternatively, you can send SMSs for free to any number and share your location. Did I mention there are ads?
  • TV.com - Find and watch all the content you’ve come to expect from TV.com. That means full episodes from shows on CBS!  Plus, it works over 3G, though video will likely be more watchable over WiFi.

Hehehehehe… I find this very funny. Look at the article title. The App Store wasn’t even in existence in February of 2008. So I’m pretty sure Jake Gaecke meant February 27th 2009.
