91% of Japanese Internet users don’t want the iPhone 3G

A survey of Internet users from age 20 to 49 in Japan conducted June 5th and 6th, 2008 by iSHARE has found that 91% of the 402 responses received have no plans of buying the 3G iPhone. However, the survey was taken before the pricing of the iPhone 3G was announced, and I’m sure that is enough to make a large percent change their mind. Softbank Mobile Corporation will be carrying the iPhone 3G in Japan, and only 22.9% of the people surveyed currently use that carrier. Another interesting fact from this survey is that 77.1% of the people surveyed said they prefer replaceable batteries.
Although the numbers from this survey are quite high, I don’t believe they’re all that fair. First off, only a small number of people were surveyed. Also, they were surveyed before WWDC, which revealed some interesting facts about the iPhone 3G, such as the price. These two reasons alone make me feel as if this survey isn’t the best to go by for the iPhone in Japan. After all, there already are a ton of iPhones over there illegally, which proves there’s a Japanese market for the iPhone 3G.
