17” iMac still lurking around

If you thought the latest refresh to the iMac line-up meant the death for the old 17-inch model, you’re wrong. Sure, as a normal retail customer, you’ll only be able to choose from the sexy new 20-inch and 24-inch aluminum iMacs (that aren’t too thin or too powerful). However, if you dig deeper, you’ll certainly find some hidden treasures.
Ars Technica is now saying that the little iMac can still be found on Apple’s website, albeit only for educational customers. This refers to institutions and schools; if you’re a student you’re out of luck. But why would you want something old anyway? The new iMacs not only look sexier but perform better at a more competitive price.
