10.5.2 Slips in a New Utility

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Feb 15, 2008 at 05:20 PM

Remote Install OS X IconMac OS X 10.5.2 had a long list of fixes and additions, but one that wasn’t mentioned was the ability to remotely install OS X on a MacBook Air without installing from the MacBook Air disc. The program tells you to insert an Apple Install disc and then walks you through installing it.

In other 10.5.2 related news, there have been many complaints of problems, thought personally I have not experienced any. Common problems seem to be the dock and Finder freezing up, Login not working at times, and the update not even finishing. The new stacks background seems to make the animations a lot choppier as well.

What’s your experience with 10.5.2 so far? Sound off in the comments below!

Installing Leopard 10.5 was very easy (a bit long - nearly one hour) and I had no problems updating to 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 either.

I am still having problems with the airport on my MBP…It doesn’t always like to wake up from sleep and it will take a restart to get it working.

  • I have had issues with my MacBook not finding my wireless Mighty mouse.  Turning the mouse off and on does not work.  Turning Bluetooth on and off does not work.

  • 10.5.2 installed fine for me, but at the end of the install process the screen blanked and it seemed to take an age before it finally rebooted.  I think this took about 5-10 minutes of real time, which feels like eons when your machine is sitting in front of you with a blank blue screen and you wonder if it’s dead.

I suspect that whatever process that was, many people pulled the plug thinking it was frozen even though it was not.

My computer is a 2.0ghz dual processor PowerMac G5 with 3GB RAM and three different external drives attached.

I’ve upgraded my 17” iMac to 10.5.2 with no problems. I’ve noticed no change (significant or otherwise) in performance.
