Macintosh/iPhone software update roundup - November 2, 2009
Today’s Mac updates involves geometry. Don’t be afraid, though, it’s here to make life easier, not harder. So is Custom Headers by M, RemObjects SDK, ReaddleDocs, RemoteSite, TypeBook Creator, and more. iPhone updates involve Hyakkiyagyo, which alone should be enough to get you to click inside, but there’s also Roto, C@rds Master, Easy Stitch, Speed Bag: Urban Gym, Pong Double, and a buyer’s guide.
Appletell reviews “And Another Thing…” H2G2 audio book for iPhone, iPod touch
It’s true. There’s a sixth installment in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy. With the death of Douglas Adams in 2001, it seemed the landmark series had reached a less than impressive end with Mostly Harmless, a book which Douglas himself referred to as “bleak.” But is a bleak ending better than one written by another authorin this case, Eoin Colfer of Artemis Fowl fame? I’ll let you all worry about that. Here, I just want to talk about the iPhone app.

Anime comes to your Mac via Boxee and Crunchyroll. Also, your pets get managed and your runes get spooky. The iPhone, on the other hands, gets groovy (thanks to IK Multimedia) and amazing (thanks to Scholastic). Want more? Maybe some Pocket Oinko (but not Boinko)? Maybe some Puzzle Genius? Perhaps some LifeFocus and Halloween Mayhem? It’s all in here.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning for Macintosh now available
War. What is it good for? For hammering online, apparently. Mythic Entertainment and Electronic Arts have announced that the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR), is now available for the Macintosh. The Mac version is available to new subscribers via digital download at Gametreeonline.com for $19.95. Current subscribers can download the Mac version free of charge.
Halloween iPhone apps that could actually be scary
There’s certainly no shortage of Halloween-themed apps in the iTunes App Store. Search “Halloween,” and nearly 200 apps show up. Now, the connection to Halloween with some of these is dubious at best, but that’s still a lot of material. The question is, how many of these apps are actually scary? Not many, but if you do enjoy a good scare on Halloween, I’ve found a couple that will do the trick.

You Mac users love your Skype, iWeb and Sandvox? They all get updates or add-ons, as do many other programs. For those who call their programs apps, the iPhone sees a few Halloween apps, a digital version of that water ring thing you used to play in the car, another text translator and a new Twitter client.
Appletell reviews Pandorum for iPhone and iPod touch
Movie tie-ins generally suck when it comes to gaming. They’re often made cheaply, they’re rushed through production to drop on or before the movie release date, and they’re often hampered by restrictions on story and characters that may not be conducive to gaming. In the case of Pandorum for the iPhone, it may be the opposite. Here’s a game that’s likely more enjoyable than the movie on which it’s based.

Got Keynote? We’ve got objects. Got Flash videos? We’ve got converters. Got history? We’ve got hounds. We’re helpful like that. For the iPhone, we’ve got Word Spin, Groovin’ Blocks, MotionDrum, iFreak, and more games. Plus, an app that helps you find cheap beer, and an app that lets you disembody zombies in bikinis. I think it’s probably important to use those two apps hand-in-hand.

The Monbots continue their attack on Mac OS X, Zevrix optimizes your links, Open Door Networks updates DoorStop, and haven’t you always wanted control over Movst, Impress and PandoraBoy? Now you can! On the iPhone, you can organize ideas, get in the ocarina spirit, take some notes, take some more notes, sculpt, and have hot babes show you your sports scores.
