Apple begins to promote Black Friday Event

by Jordan Satok on Nov 25, 2008 at 04:10 PM

Apple begins to promote Black Friday Event
Earlier today, I got an e-mail from Apple marketing this Friday as the “1 day not to miss.”

As we all know, this Friday is “Black Friday,” the annual day that retailers offer amazing deals. Apple, as expected, will be running a promotion as well on Friday, but few details are known about the event.

Apple has also posted the same ad (pictured above) to their retail website.

The event is marketed as “Our biggest shopping event of the year,” which it likely will be.

Last year’s promotion included many great deals, including iMacs starting at $1148, MacBooks starting at $1048 ($51 off) and some smaller discounts on iPods.

Be sure to check in with Appletell this Friday for complete details.

Apple realizes theres a problem with Safari 3.2, updates it to 3.2.1
Just a few weeks after releasing Safari 3.2, Apple has already released 3.2.1. Since I have been using Safari 3.2, I’ve noticed it crashes quite frequently, and I’ve also had some issues with third-party plug-ins such as flash.

This update includes stability improvements and is recommended for all Safari users.

The update is available for Leopard, Tiger and Windows. It can be downloaded directly from software update, and a restart is required to complete the installation.

MacBook and MacBook Pro take a hit on performance when no battery is installed

by Jordan Satok on Nov 24, 2008 at 07:05 AM

MacBooks and MacBook Pros take a hit on performance when no battery is installedGearlog recently discovered that if you run your MacBook or MacBook Pro connected to the AC without a battery installed, you may notice a speed decrease of up to 37%.

Some users remove the battery from their MacBook or MacBook Pro when connected to power in order to extend the battery’s lifespan, but it seems quite unexpected to see this large a performance hit when this is done.

Apple publicly documents this on their website. It turns out that Apple justifies this speed reduction because it “prevents the computer from shutting down if it demands more power than the A/C adapter alone can provide.”

A 37% speed decrease just because the laptop doesn’t have the battery installed seems a little silly, but if you want the maximum performance from your MacBook or MacBook Pro, keep the battery in when connected to power.
