Forget newspapers, the iPad will forever change magazines
When I heard Wired, my favorite tech magazine, would be launching an iPad application to access their content by summer, I was ecstatic. Not just because I enjoy the magazine so much, but because of how they play a role in the shift magazines will take now that the iPad is in existence. If I were the CEO of any magazine company in existence today, I would be making sure my application is ready for when the iPad is released in a month or so.
Valentine’s Day apps to bring you closer together
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and we’d like to help you out when it comes to iPhone applications to enjoy with your sweatheart. While the Valentine’s applications list on iTunes isn’t very extensive, surprisingly, there are a couple worth checking out if want to make the day extra special for that certain someone. Between games, love calculators, and cards, these applications should help set you in the right direction.
Google enables multi touch in Android for Nexus One
A recent update to Google’s Nexus One phone brings a feature Android users have been waiting for for quite some time now. While it won’t be available for all Android phones, Google’s phone will now support multi touch, including the popular pinch to zoom functionality of the iPhone. Support for this feature will be extended into the browser, photo gallery, and maps applications.
Boxee reacts to NBC CEO Jeff Zucker’s comments on their Hulu content access
Boxee to NBC CEO Jeff Zucker: “Boxee uses a web browser to access Hulu’s contentjust like Firefox or Internet Explorer. Boxee users click on a link to Hulu’s website and the video within that page plays. We don’t ‘take’ the video. We don’t copy it. We don’t put ads on top of it. The video and the ads play like they do on other browsers or on Hulu Desktop. And it certainly is legal to do so.”
iPhone OS 3.1.3 released
This week Apple released both the operating system as well as its SDK for the 3.1.3 version of the iPhone software. The most interesting fix this update brings is more accurate battery level reporting, meaning you might actually see how much battery you actually have left, which is pretty important, if you ask me. To get it, simply launch iTunes with your device plugged in and click the check for updates button.
Fourth gen iPhone images leaked?
Despite being around for a while, the image above of the possible fourth generation iPhone has gone relatively unnoticed thanks to the iPad announcement. However, according to both Engadget and AppleInsider, the photos come from a pretty credible source. Furthermore, I noticed that the larger frame around the iPhone in the image is very similar to the one we saw in the leaked iPad photos that turned out to be correct.
Google Tablet concept very similar to iPad
Just as Apple announces their iPad, Google quietly begins posting images and videos on the Chromium Project’s site visualizing what a possible Chrome OS tablet could look like. While the interface they show looks nothing like the Chrome OS interface we saw a few months ago, it does have a lot of resemblance to the iPad in my opinion (moreso in terms of design rather than functionality).
Apple iPad has hardware for camera, just no camera
One of the biggest disappointments for me at the iPad media event was the lack of a camera. With a device that has such a large, beautiful screen, it would only make sense to me to be able to either video chat or take pictures with it (with the former being the slickest). However, it doesn’t surprise me that Apple kept the camera out of the first generation of the model. After all, they do need something “new” to have for the second gen, don’t they? Apparently so, according to images and data from Mission Repair.
iPad Keynote condensed to 3 minutes; full of great, awesome, and beautiful
Although Apple has posted the video of Steve Jobs’ media presentation last week, it may be a little lengthy for most of us. This is especially true considering most of the content in that video is a surplus of demos. But if you do still want to see a little bit of what you missed, Neil Curtis has edited together just what you need. Past the break is his under-three-minute clip of the presentation. And yes, it’s meant to be humorous.
