Get SMS calendar alerts from iCal

by Robert Nelson on Sep 10, 2007 at 06:47 PM

ical sms noticicationA great tip that I found over on Lifehacker shows us how to get calendar updates from iCal via SMS.

As you know, text message inboxes have email addresses—for instance, 7125550000@vtext.com (for Verizon users). If you add your phone’s email address as an emailing option in your Address Book vCard, you can choose it as an option to email a reminder. Set the date, time and reminder and, Bam—you have a cell phone reminder.

Now you have another option to get those daily reminders that we all need sometimes. It could serve as a reminder for yourself or a way to help that forgetful significant other.

TypePad Mobile updated for iPhone

by Robert Nelson on Sep 10, 2007 at 06:31 PM

typepad mobile for iphoneTypePad has released an updated mobile client designed for the iPhone. Currently there are also clients for Palm, Windows Mobile and Symbian. The new TypePad mobile client for iPhone can be accessed at http://i.typepad.com and should make mobile blogging that much easier.

With TypePad mobile on the iPhone you are not able to direct upload images, but you can email an image to a TypePad server to then use. Its been a while since I last checked out TypePad but this may make a nice blog service to use for a personal blog, with easy mobile and desktop updates possible I would be able to keep it updated and fresh as well as capture those spur of the moment thoughts.

Apple sells 1 million iPhones in just 74 days

by Robert Nelson on Sep 10, 2007 at 03:09 PM

Apple has announced that they have sold 1 million iPhones in just 74 days. This will mark the completion for one of their two public goals dealing with the iPhone, Apple had wanted to sell 1 million before the end of September 2007, and also sell 10 million iPhones in 2008. Apple managed to beat the first by 21 days, lets see just how quickly they will be able to hit the 10 million mark in 2008.

“One million iPhones in 74 days-it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, in the press release. “We can’t wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season.”

With the holiday season quickly approaching and the sudden and dramatic price drop for the iPhone, it would be safe to think that sales will be steady and high through the end of 2007, lets see just how well it will do once the holiday rush settles down.

The iTunes Store have made Ringo’s post-Bealtes EMI catalog available including the new digital greatest hits collection “Photograph” which is an iTunes Plus album. Possibly the upcoming Apple special event on September 5th will give everyone the Beatles catalog also, in the mean time 3 out of 4 is a good start.

Secure your internet connection at Starbucks

by Robert Nelson on Aug 31, 2007 at 04:09 PM

starbucks logo

As someone who works from a home office I often am looking for a change in scenery and find myself up at the local Starbucks, that way I can get a great cup of coffee and get some work done at the same time. Using the T-Mobile HotSpot service I am easily able to connect and get to work, except with the HotSpot connection my internet traffic has always been unsecured and therefor open for snooping. It turns out that T-Mobile offers a Connection Manager software for Windows but nothing for Mac.
