Net4Mac is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch
Recently, Net4Mac released a social networking application designed for users of the iPhone and iPod touch. Net4Mac is a social networking community created exclusively for Mac users. In order to use Net4Mac’s mobile application, you have to create an account at the Net4Mac.com website. You’ll have to be on a Mac computer to complete this process.
You can download Net4Mac’s social networking application by logging onto the AppStore on iTunes. The pricing is very reasonable at $1.99. Initially, it was $4.99, but users complained, so the price was lowered. According to the e-mail I received from Net4Mac, the upgrades will always be free.
Once you have created your account, you’ll now be able to access Net4Mac on your iPhone or iPod touch. Net4Mac allows mobile users to read their messages, send messages, and browse user profiles. More goodies are in store for Net4Mac, and we’ll see them being released in future updates.
NBC iTunes downloads soar to over one million; free shows available
Lots of great things were revealed at the Let’s Rock event this month. We received updated iPods, saw the unveiling of iTunes 8, and another highlight was Steve Jobs’ announcement that NBC would be returning to iTunes. Naturally, the news was received with much enthusiasm by NBC fans, and I quickly went to download some of the classic TV shows on my MacBook Pro, such as The A Team and Alfred Hitchcock. iTunes users flocked to the NBC offerings since the announcement, as NBC shows have been downloaded over one million times. Now, that’s impressive.
Many questioned why NBC left iTunes in the first place. NBC had an impressive year (2007) before they left iTunes, accounting for 40% of Apple’s iTunes sales. One of the reasons behind NBC leaving iTunes was they wanted to charge a higher price for some of its shows. Apple refused, and they parted ways. It’s nice to see NBC return and doing well.
WOTLK to hit stores on November 13: Will classes be fixed before release?
World of Warcraft fans have a lot to be excited about, as Wrath of the Lich King will be released on November 13th. This is the third expansion of the extremely popular MMORPG. It’s good news for Mac gamers, since it’s a game we can actually play on our Macs without using Boot Camp or Parallels.
With all the goodies in store for gamers who purchase Wrath of the Lich King, you would imagine that everyone is excited about the upcoming release, right? Not so.
Microsoft’s new commercial; epic…fail
Microsoft gave Seinfeld the boot and has released two new commercials: “I’m a PC: Pride” and “I’m a PC: Not Alone.” In just these first two commercials, Microsoft still isn’t talking about the benefits of Vista? Instead, after viewing the commercial, I now realize anyone can own a Microsoft computer, regardless of your race, gender, profession, political views, or country. Like we didn’t know that before? Why is Microsoft not telling us why we need Vista?
You would think with the beating Apple has given Microsoft in its Mac vs PC commercials that when Microsoft, the sleeping giant, finally roused itself to take swipe at Apple, it would actually come out swinging. At least, that is what many thought when Microsoft announced that it was sinking a cool $300 million on commercials. Thus far, we haven’t seen it.
Microsoft cuts off Seinfeld commercials; John Hodgman look-alike takes over
The TV show Seinfeld was about nothing, and the ads Microsoft ran featuring comedian Jerry Seinfeld seemed to follow the same theme.
Now, CrunchGear is reporting that Microsoft is ditching Seinfeld. Sorry folks, we won’t be seeing any additional commercials of Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. The problem is that the ads, for the most part, confused people, as Microsoft apparently forgot to clue people in on just what the commercials were about. I found the first commercial puzzling, as I was expecting it to focus on why users should purchase Windows Vista over Macs. Instead, the first commercial was set in a shoe store, and focused on shoes. Err…what? Vista wasn’t even mentioned. Was Microsoft’s point that even though we don’t always think about a good pair of shoes, they are essential and reliable, just like Microsoft?
I found it interesting that Seinfeld was even chosen for the ads. In his popular show of the same name, Seinfeld had a Mac displayed in his apartment. And, over the years, his Mac was upgraded. In fact, a 20th anniversary Mac made an appearance on the show. Seinfeld also appeared in Apple’s think different ad campaign. Obviously, Seinfeld was a switcher. Not that there is anything wrong with that…

Add 6 to 10 hours of battery life to MacBook Air with Apple Juicz
Are you looking for a way to extend the battery life of your MacBook Air? QuickerTek might have the solution. QuickerTek is rolling out a new product called Apple Juicz, which will charge your MacBook Air through thin-film solar cells in as little as five hours.
Since Apple Juicz extends the MacBook Air’s battery life, you won’t have to worry about running out of power while you are working on your projects. There is an LED status indicator that lets you know what is going on. Also included is a modified MacBook Air MagSafe charger (which uses military-spec parts) that provides a more powerful chargeand yes, it will still work with the stock MacBook Air.

Help, I’m unable to access the App store!
If you haven’t already heard by now, the App store is here. I immediately downloaded the iTunes update, but when I logged into iTunes, I still couldn’t access the App store.
What was going on? After a few moments of panic, I realized the answer was actually very simple; I needed to update my iTunes preferences.

Ubisoft makes a deal with Transgaming; more games coming to the Mac
Following in the footsteps of Electronic Arts, Ubisoft has signed a deal with Trangaming to wrap their titles in Cider and port them to the Mac. The news has already received mixed reviews. The list of Cider games for the Mac is underwhelming, and it really hasn’t proven itself when it comes to Mac games.
When I heard the news, I was excited. Ubisoft has a lot of game titles that I would love to play on my Mac: Prince of Persia, Assassins Creed, Far Cry 2, and Beyond Good and Evil (which is currently in the pre-development stage.
My initial excitement took an unexpected nosedive when I logged onto the Transgaming website. Find out why after the break.
