iPhone stock running out, 3G right around the corner?

Apple US Online Store - reads: “Ships: Currently Unavailable”
iPhones have been in high demand recently and the lack of stock in both US and UK Apple stores is not helping the problem. The iPhone is one of the most sought-after devices of the year and both retail and online stores are having their supplies dry up. Many believe this is due to Apple’s expected announcement of the 3G iPhone next month.
AT&T hints at future iPhone updates/3G in 2009, with customer survey
So AT&T recently sent out a small survey of about 30 questions to most iPhone owners asking whether or not they’d like certain features or upgrades. Some of the questions were very interesting and show us what AT&T and Apple may be working on, they include:
How interested are you, if at all, in the following iPhone potential enhancements?
- Ability to control my DVR (TIVO) with my Apple iPhone
- Apple iPhone Insurance
- iPhone purchase anniversary rewards (free iTunes, videos etc.)
- Ability to use my iPhone as a credit card
These questions are all very interesting and lets hope we see them in the future. But in the survey AT&T also confirmed that there would be a 3G iPhone…in 2009. Now, we’re not sure if this was just AT&T talking or both Apple and AT&T, so we may have to wait another year before we see 3G in our iPhones.

Lightroom 2 beta released: Adobe takes aim, Aperture in sights
![]()
It seems Adobe took Apple’s latest Aperture 2.1 release as a challenge with the release of Lightroom 2 beta. We’re not quite sure when the full version will be released, but the beta version expires on August 31 this year. But, Adobe definitely took a swing at Apple, read for yourself:
“One thing we can say, however, is that we plan to continue with a more aggressive release schedule than we’ve seen from Apple, which took over two years between release of Aperture 1.0 and 2.0.“
The new beta also offers local corrections via the Develop module, which is in direct competition with Aperture 2.1’s new plug-in editing tool. It shows how much Adobe is gunning for Apple. Many worried Adobe would limit Lightroom functionality so Photoshop would still be the number one program, but I believe Lightroom and Photoshop both serve different functions. Lightroom is geared towards organizing photos for professionals, or a standalone app for beginners. The pros will always be using Photoshop, but Lightroom serves a much better process than Bridge.
If you are a licensed user of Lightroom, you can check out the Lightroom 2 Beta and use it until August 31. Adobe seems to be aiming for Apple, so it brings up the question; Will Apple ever create a Photoshop competitor?

P.S. Happy Birthday Apple!
In all the excitement of yesterday here at Appletell we totally forgot to say Happy Birthday to Apple who turned 32. The company is still young and we hope it continues to grow. We have a small run through of Apple products from our posts yesterday, but props to Ars Technica who has a list of 32 memorable products over 32 years, definitely worth checking out.
And now, back to your regular scheduled programming

Okay, so today was April fools day (duh!) and instead of pulling really lame pranks, we decided to have a retro-day and put a spin on some old products and announcements. Some people took it well, and others took it…not so well. We apologize if you were offended by it, but not much else happened in Apple news today. Plus, we like to have a little fun once in awhile.
Here is a breakdown of Today’s posts:
Apple announces iPod, 5GB
Jobs fired from Apple, finally!
Clamshell iBook released, sexiest laptop ever!
AAPL stock only $10/share, Analysts say to avoid
Apple gets new logo, now less-colorful!
Say good-bye to square, hello cube
PowerMac G3 released, 350mhz is all you’ll ever need!
Macintosh Portable announced, Super lightweight
Apple releases Newton, revolutionizes business as we know it
P.S. Happy Birthday Apple!
RelatedAAPL Stock only $10/share, Analysts say to avoid
Today, AAPL stock dropped below $10 a share and even though the price seems good, analysts are asking you to step back and spend your money elsewhere. Even with the recent launch of Apple’s (destined to fail) iPod, everyone is still advising you to hold onto your money. A major release bringing a drop in stock prices is pretty bad, and from the looks of Apple’s new product lineup, you shouldn’t expect the stock to do anything for the next few years - if the company is still around.
The industry seems to be investing more and more into the Microsoft company, who is said to be working on a product much better than anything Apple could put out at this current time, dubbed Windows XP. This software is said to be so revolutionary that it will include both a Notepad, Calculator, and the popular game Minesweeper.

Apple releases Newton, revolutionizes business as we know it
Apple Computer took a turn into a new industry with the release of the MessagePad running the Newton OS, but many are just calling it ‘Newton’. The device boasts a 20mhz chip, 4mb ROM, and 640kb of RAM - not to mention a single PCMCIA-slot. When it comes to battery life, the device gets surprisingly good battery life off of 4 x AAA batteries, lasting you about 3/4 of a day.
The device is very revolutionary with its handwriting recognition and other features. The device is small enough to fit in an over-sized pocket or small carrying bag. It is also a great companion for your Powerbook. The device will go for around $1000 and is sure to make your life much easier with all of the included features.

Jobs fired from Apple Computer, finally!
We’ve all known Jobs has been slipping lately and the time has finally come. Steve Jobs was fired from Apple after being quite abusive to the Lisa team and his own team after focussing his energy towards the Macintosh. Jobs was let go and has no plans to move anywhere else and is currently taking time to evaluate his life.
Jobs is a very public failure. I mean, who wouldn’t be after being fired from a company you started. But in the end, we think it is all for the greater good, even though Jobs was best known for his design elements which may be lacking in the next Apple Computer product release. We’ll have to see how things turn out for Steve, but it is fairly obvious that he won’t be working in the computer industry again, and definitely not for Apple.

Analysts, what are they good for?
So every couple of days a new rumor comes out about how Apple will succeed and what product is to be released next. Now, its not just sites and writers making up these rumors, its usually ‘analysts.‘ I don’t quite understand what it is these analysts do other than create rumors and get paid to do so (sounds like an awesome job though).
The latest is from an analyst who explains that there will be over 45 million iPhone sales in 2009. The reasoning behind this? Current rumors about where the iPhone will be released next. It’s actually quite funny to see people believe this stuff, I could just as easily pull a number out of nowhere and throw in a few BS facts to say what is going to happen next.
I want to know what you think though, what do you think of analysts and do they provide any use to the industry other than starting rumors? Let me know in the comments.
