8GB iPhone 3G soon to gain an S?
Currently, Apple’s most affordable model of iPhone is the 8GB iPhone 3G, also known as “last year’s model.” But that could change soon. Unconfirmed tipsalong with a few, not so blurry, picsseem to confirm that Rogers in Canada is draining their 8GB iPhone 3G stock to make way for the new 8GB iPhone 3GS. I think it’s fair to assume this rumor would apply to AT&T and elsewhere too.
Is RFID the next feature for iPhone 4?
Apple could already be testing next generation iPhones equipped with RFID (radio frequency identification) capabilities if a less than rock solid rumor is to be trusted (as if rumors could be solid in the first place). What exactly would you do with RFID in your iPhone? A host of things actually, but the most useful for regular users would likely be how it could simplify device discovery and syncing.
Appletell reviews the NZXT CRYO S Notebook Cooler
The CRYO S notebook cooler/stand is made out of one super thick (3mm) piece of aluminum. It has a nice brush-black aluminum finish with some slots cut out, some grill work, and some rubber details to keep your notebook in place. Underneath the slab of metal are two 120mm fans. These are powered by either USB or an AC adapter. On the back are the dial for fan speed and a two port USB hub. The CRYO S will easily hold any notebook up to 15 inches.
Sleek Audio announces more affordable SA1 in-ear earphones
Sleek Audio has announced their newest addition to their already stunning line of earphones, the SA1. Sleek is known for their amazing (and quite expensive) earphones, but today they’re trying to satisfy the need for great audio without depleting the savings account with the SA1. It has VQ tuning and a rosewood body, it’s wireless ready and, wait for it, only $79.99.
Free app roundup for October 30th, 2009
Halloween might be upon you, but you’re grown up now. So instead of getting the candy, you’ll be giving it out with a big smile on your face, right? Yeah, probably not. Those darn kids just want candy. They don’t give a crap about you, and they certainly don’t care how much you spent on candy, or how much (little) effort you put into spooking up your place. So, just for you, I’ve rounded up a few free apps to help put a smile on that face.
Google Maps Navigation to make its way to the iPhone?
Today, Google released their free GPS guidance app for Android 2.0, called Navigation. But rumor, or CNET, has it that the app will make its way to iPhone at some point in the future. Many first time users guess, erroneously, that the iPhone has a GPS navigation app built in. This could fix that, especially if the way it makes it to the iPhone is to replace the Maps app.
The “impending” Apple tablet
Another day, another rumor about the “impending” Apple Tablet. Today, the internet was on fire with talk about a leaked picture of what could be the SIM card tray for the rumored Apple Tablet. And if that wasn’t quite enough to get you to stop yawning, Bill Keller, executive editor at the New York Times, made a not-so-off-the-record speech about the New York Times’ web presence. In that speech, he made reference to an Apple Tablet as if he knows something we don’t know. I’m not convinced
Appletell reviews the DoubleSight Smart USB Monitor DS-70U
The DoubleSight USB monitor is one of the many options available today in the world of USB displays. DoubleSight has 7 and 9 inch models, and you can even get a webcam to go along with the 9 inch model. The 9 inch also obviously benefits from a higher display, but both are about the size of an average netbook screen (if that’s something you’re familiar with). I tested out the DS-70U, the 7 inch model. The display powers itself and connects to your Mac (or PC) using two USB connections.
