Apple files another patent for… gasp… a multitouch interface!

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 29, 2008 at 08:00 AM

MacBook TouchApple has shoveled a bunch more coal onto the fire that is the mythical Apple tablet by filing for another patent published for “Gestures for Touch Sensitive Input Devices.”

The patent is clearly for a device with a screen larger than that of the iPhone or the iPod Touch, but small enough to be portable. That’s a long way of saying the MacBook Touch, or at least that’s what I’m going to call it.

Details after the break.

Adium upgrades to version 1.3

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 28, 2008 at 01:16 PM

Adium Mac IM programAdium has long been my favorite chatting program on the Mac. Sorry Apple, but iChat just doesn’t cut it for me. It’s kind of like TVs; you don’t know how bad your TV looks until you’ve seen a 1080p in person.

This week, Adium released an official update to their slick chatting program, clocking its version number at 1.3.

Details after the break.

Apple Special Event September 9thMacRumors is collecting some rumors in one article about a possible date for Apple’s next new product announcement. All sources seem to converge on September 9th.

Goodbye, Tris, we miss you already [Update]

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 25, 2008 at 10:57 PM

Tris free Tetris You may remember my favorite Tetris clone, Tris, that was released in the App Store in the second week of August. In my opinion, it is the best Tetris clone available, and quite possibly the best free game on the App Store as of this writing.  But, that’s not going to last. No, soon it will not be the best free game on the App Store; mostly because it won’t be available.

Find out why after the break.

iPhone 3G antennas are fine says GP

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 25, 2008 at 07:00 PM

iPhone 3G antennas are fineWestern Sweden’s largest newspaper, Göteborgs-Posten (or The Gothenburg Post for us American’s who have no idea how to pronounce words with dots above them), says there is nothing wrong with the antenna inside of the iPhone 3G. They were curious to check out just how well the antenna actually performs, so they did.

They used a testing chamber made by a company called Bluetest. The chambers are used by cell phone manufacturers to see how well phones receive and transmit data under certain circumstances without actually needing to go into the field.

Check out their findings after the break.
