Apple announces Aperture 3
Today’s Apple Store offline time has brought us Aperture 3. Aperture is Apple’s pro equivalent to iPhoto, and some of the features they’ve added today seem to play off of that relationship. Aperture 3 now supports Faces, Places and Brushes. In addition, there are over 200 new features present. It’s available today for $199 or as an upgrade from a previous version of Aperture for $99, and a 30 day trial is available.
4th gen iPhone to be taller and include front facing camera?
iResQ has posted some pictures of what they believe to be the glass for the 4th generation iPhone. There are two notable differences from the current iPhone glass. First, it’s taller (1/4 inch) and it has an extra hole. Gee whiz, I wonder what we think that’s for; this extra hole in the glass certainly could be for an extra, front facing camera for video chatting. I won’t deny it; I want one, that’s for sure. But at the same time, I find it too good to be true. Parts like this aren’t that difficult to fabricate, so I’m not totally sold.
The Apple Store is down, new MacBook Pros on the way?
Apple Store Down, Apple Store Down, looking like a fool with your Apple Store Down… Yes, the Apple Store is down, just in time to say thanks to Macworld again. So, what’s it going to be this time? I’m thinking new MacBook Pros with Core i7 processors in them, but hey, anything could happen right? Maybe they’ll put up an iPad preorder page.
Macworld 2010: Navigon updates MobileNavigator
Navigon’s at it again. No surprise, really. This time, they’ve been working on Panorama View 3D and MyRoutes. Oh yeah, they also added Twitter and Facebook connectivity. I’m beginning to think the rest of the GPS apps on the App Store are just playing catch up with Navigon.
Appletell reviews the Just Mobile Xtand Go
The JustMobile car cradle is not too different from other iPhone car cradles. That’s not to say that it can’t distiguish itself from the pack, though. Its small design comes apart to fit in a bag or to be stored somewhere in your car other than on your windshield. That’s something many car cradles can’t do. This design also makes it universal. Yes,while its main usage will be for the iPhone, it’s technically a universal car cradle.
Free apps roundup for February 5th, 2010
This week is brought to you by iTunes Preview. This means that every time you click one of the links on my list, instead of a useless blank page kicking you to iTunes, you’ll first get a snapshot of the app’s page on the App Store right in your browser. A useful feature for sure. Now you can browse these apps at work. Don’t worry, I won’t tell.
Apple enables iTunes Preview for web browser app previews
The next time you click on a link in my weekly Free Apps Roundup you’ll be pleasantly surprised by an in browser app preview in the tab or window that opens as a result of clicking the App Store link. Instead of a useless blank page, you’ll be able to view a snapshot of what you’ll see on the App Store. And before you say this is uterlly pointless, consider how much more useful this might seem if you aren’t using your normal computer.
Skype and Sling to go 3G in time for iPad 3G
AT&T has announced they’ve allowed Sling to make their SlingPlayer Mobile app for iPhone able to use their 3G network. This just in, you’ll need to ask AT&T permission next time you want to use your iPhone… Skype has also announced they’ll be taking their iPhone app into the realm of 3G before long. Other voice apps have actually beaten them to this feature, but nevertheless, consumers will likely prefer Skype to competitors.
Apple awarded touch sensitive bezel patent
Does the iPad’s extra wide bezel bother you? I know it bothers me. It’s consistent with other displays that Apple produces, such as on the MacBook Pros, but I still hate to see that much wasted space. Apparently Apple has similar feelings, but instead of eliminating this space between the edge of the device and the screen, they may intend to put it to use. Apple has been awarded a patent to use that area for touch based controls.
Apple updates iTunes to version 9.0.3
Today, Apple released another update to iTunes, bumping it up to version 9.0.3. This update fixes a problem that’s likely been driving you nuts for months now if you have an iDevice. I love the wording; “iTunes no longer ignores your ‘Remember password for purchases’ setting.” Finally, you’ll be able to check that box one last time! The rest of the details from Apple are listed after the break.
