University of Washington to offer professional certification for iPhone development
The home of Windows is now, ironically, the home of the world’s first course for iPhone development certification. The University of Washington is offering a professional certification program consisting of three classes to help students obtain a good base in becoming solid developers. Despite Stanford University’s decision to make their iPhone development class (taught by Apple employees) available for free on iTunes U, UW has decided to have a richer experience for students by offering the full course.

Apple to introduce 8GB iPhone 3GS, replace 8GB 3G?
In June, Apple did not fully phase out the 2008 model of the iPhone, the 3G. Instead, they chose to sell the 8GB model of the iPhone 3G in storesthat is, until a time when supply of the device is exhausted. This may be closer than we previously thought, as the Boy Genius Report has a picture of a supposed Rogers internal message, titled “Rogers 8GB iPhone transitioning to 3GS.”

iPhone OS 3.1 plist reveals new Apple “iProd”?
The recently seeded iPhone OS 3.1 beta contains a particularly interesting plist file. In the “USBDeviceConfiguration.plist” file, lies a previously unseen device: the “iProd1,1.” This new name harkens back to a few months ago, when an “iPhone3,1” appeared in a plist file. Months later, we were given the now-current iPhone model.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt resigns from Apple Board of Directors
The perfect marriage between Google and Apple was not to be, it seems, as CEO of Google Eric Schmidt has resigned from the Apple Board of Directors. Schmidt, who had been a board member for 2 years, has resigned at a time where the Mountain View search/advertising company is branching out into Apple’s territory. With each producing competing smartphone platforms (Android and iPhone) and possibly even operating systems (Chrome OS and Mac OS X) Schmidt’s presence in the Apple boardroom was beginning to be one of conflicting interest, even though he had been removing himself from decisions where the two companies overlapped.

Apple slated Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) for a September launch at a $29 price point when they announced it in detail at WWDC earlier this year. Amazon is generally the first 3rd party retail store to have a product for sale. This does not change with Apple, as their next iteration of Mac OS X is now available for pre-order at Amazon.

Apple releases iPhone update 3.0.1, fixes SMS hack

Security expert Charlie Miller found the hole and informed Apple of it a month ago, but until today, they had done nothing to combat it. He revealed the details of his hack at Black Hat, where hackers convene to make the public aware of security breaches that can be made relatively easily.
