Apple’s music-themed event confirmed for September 9th
Just as August draws to a close, Apple has made official their much rumored September 9th music themed event. As they have done in past years, Apple has released the image above announcing the event in the style of their ubiquitous iPod and iTunes advertisements. “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it” reads the image, quoting the Rolling Stones’ song.
Current iPod SKUs are discontinued, new iPods around the corner
Apple Authorized Resellers are reporting to Ars Technica that the current stock of iPods are not being replenished, and that there will indeed be a new line of iPods introduced in the very near future. With Apple’s iPod event all but set to be September 9th, this comes as no surprise, as Apple has updated their iPod line in September the past several years. The question is what, not when.
iPhone coming to China today?
According to an analyst, China Unicomthe largest cell phone carrier in terms of subscriberswill announce a deal with Apple to sell the iPhone in China today. This the latest in a series of clues that points to the iPhone making its way to the most populous country on the planet. A spokeswoman from China Unicom stated that the iPhone would be a topic of discussion when the company has a media briefing to discuss its performance in the first half of the year, though the woman did not confirm that the iPhone would definitely be coming to China.

Facebook 3.0 gets submitted to the App Store, numerous updates ahead
Via his Twitter account, developer Joe Hewitt has announced that he has submitted the Facebook app to the App Store, and it is now pending approval. The new app, which has been a few months in the making, will have a slew of new features that will match the updates that Facebook has made to its layout in the months following the release of Facebook 2.0 for the iPhone.
Photos and video of new iPod touch emerge
Following is a 24 second clip of an Apple device, with a camera, being shown off on video (fittingly, video taken by an iPhone). iPod touch rumors have been spreading for weeks regarding an update that introduces a camera to the high-selling portable media device. Though the idea did not originally make too much sense, this may be Apple’s retaliation to AT&T’s continual mishandling of the iPhonecreating a nearly equally-featured device that many could use instead of being tied to AT&T and the iPhone.
Rumors abound as photos of “iPad” surface
The rumor mill has been in a frenzy lately over the purported Apple “iTablet.” Now, a supposed picture of the device has emerged, along with a Borders survey referencing an “Apple IPAD (Large Screen Reading Device).” The picture seems to match the commonly held description of Apple’s upcoming device: a 10-inch device that looks like an iPhone stretched out, and a single home button on the face of the device.
Insider divulges information on Apple’s tablet
Gizmodo’s Brian Lam has received some juicy details on the mysterious Apple tablet. The insider “may or may not” have sat in Apple meetings regarding the tablet, and apparently has held mock ups of the device. Apple begins to offer matte display for 15-inch MacBook Pro…again
Starting this week, however, Apple has begun to once again offer a $50 matte display option to their 15-inch MacBook Pro, calling it the “Antiglare” widescreen display. It will join the 17-inch MacBook Pro as models that have matte displays, but the 13-inch MacBook “Pro” will not have this option available.
USAA Bank iPhone app lets customers deposit checks electronically
The United States Automobile Association (USAA)a privately held bank based in San Antonio, TXwill allow its customers to deposit checks using its iPhone application starting this week. The iPhone application will allow users to deposit checks simply by taking a picture of both sides of the check with the iPhone’s camera. That’s it. The entire process is done electronically, and the physical check can be voided, filed, or discarded.
