by Ed McKell on Oct 5, 2009 at 06:27 AM

Let’s face it, the iPhone is an awesome device that is very flexible and can fulfill many roles. But this super ability often requires more power than your internal battery can provide. Thanks to Apple’s decision to make the iPhone battery non-removable, there is now a booming market in third-party external battery packs. One of the latest comes from FSP. As one of the top ten power supply manufacturers in the world, they have a lot of experience with powering the world’s devices.

iPhone MMS goes live

by Ed McKell on Sep 25, 2009 at 10:53 PM

Today is the day when AT&T promised that the US based 3G and 3GS iPhones would finally be able to use MMS and join the ranks of just about every other cell phone in the universe. So, when I plugged in my iPhone to sync this afternoon, I was a little concerned that the sync completed and nothing seemed to be different. by Ed McKell on Jun 23, 2009 at 05:42 AM

One of the most talked about and anticipated features of the new iPhone OS 3.0 is the push notification system. By using push notifications, app developers will be able to notify iPhone users when they have received new information relating to one of their registered apps that use this new technology. This concept was first announced last summer, and finally released with the new iPhone OS? Yes, sort of.

by Ed McKell on Jun 18, 2009 at 08:18 AM

When Apple previewed the iPhone 3.0 update at WWDC last week, one of the previously unannounced features was the new “Find My iPhone” service for Mobile Me users. Being a Mobile Me subscriber, I thought I would try it out and let you know how it worked. After spending some time trying out this feature, I am impressed by the simplicity and elegance of it. As a Mobile Me user, I am glad Apple has continued to increase the spectrum of my Mobile Me subscription, making it even more valuable.

As I’m sure you’ve heard, Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) kicks off on Monday, and expectations are very high. Swirling around the web are lots of WWDC rumors guessing what Apple will do and anticipating with excitement the possible hardware announcement, but I want to spend a little time discussing what WWDC is really all about: Operating Systems.

Walt Mossberg speaks out on the new iPhone

by Ed McKell on Jun 4, 2009 at 11:31 AM

Walt Mossberg, everyone’s favorite technology columnist, has written a review of the Palm Pre in which he spends a large portion of his time comparing it to the iPhone. Towards the end of the article he spends a little time speculating about what he expects to come from Apple in the iPhone space. It’s interesting speculation coming from Walt, as he tends to be a man “in the know” and often manages to get his hands on pre-release hardware.

by Ed McKell on Jun 4, 2009 at 09:15 AM

It’s easy to have a challenging puzzle, but if the gameplay doesn’t keep your attention, the concept falls flat. Conversely, you can take a simple idea, add an interesting twist, and suddenly it’s a compelling game offering hours of enjoyment. This roundup includes a little of both, as the game I expected to enjoy the most didn’t come through, and the one I expected to blow off held my attention and became a fun game that will stay on my iPhone for some time to come.
