ANNOUNCEMENT

Adium upgrades to version 1.3

by Jake Gaecke on Aug 28, 2008 at 01:16 PM

Adium Mac IM programAdium has long been my favorite chatting program on the Mac. Sorry Apple, but iChat just doesn’t cut it for me. It’s kind of like TVs; you don’t know how bad your TV looks until you’ve seen a 1080p in person.

This week, Adium released an official update to their slick chatting program, clocking its version number at 1.3.

Steve Jobs continues living, despite a released obituary

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Aug 28, 2008 at 11:27 AM

Steve Jobs
Bloomberg made a rather colossal slip-up today by accidentally releasing Steve Jobs’ obituary to the press. And no, his Steveness hasn’t died.

Most prominent figures have obituaries drawn up and ready to go, so that there can be a media frenzy the second they pass. Bloomberg editors were spicing it up a bit today, apparently bringing it up to date, when someone hit the wrong button and published it.

Bits of the obit after the break.

International Space Station Windows computers infected with virus.

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Aug 28, 2008 at 08:30 AM

Windows in SpaceThe International Space Station has been infiltrated. That’s right, a virus has made it’s way onto the computers of the International Space Station. The computers, running Windows XP, were non-mission-critical, containing things like e-mail and “nutritional experiments.”

The computers were infected by the W32.Gammima.AG worm, which harvests credentials for online games. Somewhat disconcertingly, the virus has spread since its entry into space, meaning that it is on some sort of onboard drive or intranet.

3G iPhones Already Outnumber 2.5G units?

by Mark Rowland on Aug 27, 2008 at 12:15 PM

iphone 3g outnumbers iphone 2.5gWhen Steve Jobs set some lofty iPhone 3G sales goals, some said it couldn’t be done. Well, to the naysayers dismay, it looks as though Apple is well on its way to its goals, and then some. With the original iPhone selling 6 million units in the first year, it seems as though Apple may pass that mark after about a month and a half.

According to recent reports, anonymous sources claim that the main assembler of the phones, Foxconn, is pumping out iPhones to the tune of 800,000 per week. Also in the tip were rumors of Foxconn increasing that output in the near future. Now, if you do the math, the iPhone 3G should have passed the 6 million mark within the week.

Even bigger numbers after the break.

by Adam Fisher-Cox on Aug 27, 2008 at 11:15 AM

AppleApple, growing now at exponential rates, has passed the 10% marketshare mark, landing at 10.4%.

Apple is growing in leaps and bounds in an economy where few companies are. This time last year, Apple’s market share was at 7.5% of the industry, and the year before, they had 5.4%. That means that between 2006 and 2007, Apple grew 2.1%, and between 2007 and 2008 they grew 3.9%, nearly doubling the rate of growth.
