Steve Jobs promises September iPhone software patch
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has promised a fix for a common bug in the iPhone’s latest software. Many people are experiencing iPhone applications not launching properly; Apple is aware of this and are hoping to fix it in an update that will be released in September. “This is a known iPhone bug that is being fixed in the next software update in September,” says the short note from Steve.

Copy and Paste may be on the horizon for the iPhone
We’ve all asked for it. Time and time again. We’re sick of writing things that can just be copied. The iPhone is about ease of use, why shouldn’t copy and paste be part of the big picture too?
Remember the app by Proximi called MagicPad? It was the first app on the App Store to allow copy and paste functionality. But realistically, it wasn’t that useful when you consider that the ability can only be used inside of MagicPad.
Zac White, a student developer, has taken that idea and expanded upon it. Up until now, copy and paste between programs has not been allowed to work because of the agreement of the iPhone SDK. It restricts apps from working with each other via plug-ins, and restricts background processes; so, it seemed copy and paste wouldn’t be able to work between apps. But it appears that thought was wrong.

Apple replacing MagSafe power adapters for free!
It seems that enough people have complained, and Apple has decided it’s willing to lower its profit margins by a few cents and give away replacement MagSafe Power Adapters should yours fray and fall apart.
Many MacBook and MacBook Pro owners have reported their MagSafe Power Adapters fraying just below the head and, at times, shorting. These reports have been coming in since the introduction of MagSafe into the notebook line, but Apple has done nothing about it until this week.
A new support page confirms that whether the product is in or out of warranty, any Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider will replace the adapter free of charge.

Microsoft says Xbox Live iPhone apps must be free
Microsoft, maker of the evil Windows, Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, has not made an iPhone application of any sort, but faithful fans and users have taken the task into their own hands and created a few apps of their own. Microsoft is apparently not offended by the apps’ presence in the iTunes store, but they will not stand idly by while 3rd party developers reap the benefits of their service. The Redmond Giant has demanded iPhone Xbox Live apps be available at no cost. It is becoming clear that the Xbox division is one of Microsoft’s strongest, and is certainly showing its prowess by looking out for end-users, and subsequently saving them a buck or two.
iPhone and iPod touch owners can check out a few Xbox Live apps: XBOX Live Friends, Xbox Live Friends, iLive ($1.99).

Had bad 3G reception before? Firmware 2.0.2 gets rid of it completely…
For many users, firmware update 2.0.2 was supposed to be the fix for 3G reception issues. I say supposed to be, because apparently, instead of fixing the iPhone’s hefty signal strength requirements for 3G, it makes that already bad reception worse for some users.
According to iPhoneAtlas, some 3G users are unable to get wireless access of any sort without disabling the option for 3G. Here’s what an Apple Discussions poster had to say:
I use to get 1-3 bars of 3g service in my house and now I cant make a call… I have to switch off the 3G to get any bars Things are going the wrong way!

Apple posts highest customer satisfaction rates ever
The American Customer Satisfaction Index recorded its highest rating yet, and attached to it was the name Apple, Inc.
Apple, with its score of 85, marks its fifth year of being first place among all other computer manufacturers. The 85 score was a full ten points above runner-up Dell, who was the only other company to record an increase over 2007’s results.
A gap this large has never been seen before, according to the head of the ACSI, who also noted this gap was likely driven by consumer frustration at Windows Vista and related problems. However, Apple’s results don’t include its MobileMe / iPhone 3G launch fiasco, the results of which are expected to level off next year’s scores.

Latest build of OS X 10.5.5 seeded to developers, full release expected soon
While we were all busy updating our iPhones and iPod Touches to the iPhone firmware 2.0.2 on Monday, Apple seeded OS X 10.5.5 build 9F17 to developers.
According to AppleInsider, this build brings five new updates, pushing the grand total of code fixes to 120.
Problems addressed include issues with iCal, Back to My Mac, Mail Syncing, and CoreAnimation.
This update is reported to have no known issues. This was also the case with the last update, build 9F15. So, it seems that Apple is tying up loose ends and preparing to release the update to us all. You can expect the release of Mac OS X 10.5.5 to happen in the next few weeks.

Leaked screenshots of iPhone app for Nike +
I’ve been jealous of the iPod nano’s ability to use the Nike + kit for some time now. Currently, the iPhone can’t use the peripheral that tracks your runs. But according to iphone.fr, an app is being developed to make use of the Nike + on the iPhone (and presumably the iPod touch), and will possibly cure my jealousy.
iphone.fr has some great leaked photos of the rumored application that look pretty tempting. Many more features are available straight from the app than are offered on the iPod nano. For instance, you can track your goals and progress with the app. It offers some great looking graphs, and keeps track of a lot of details.

Rare new iPod nano features discovered: failure and deformation
First generation iPod nano owners, listen up. If your iPod nano was purchased between September of 05 and December of 06, then you might have some “hot” features you don’t want.
Macworld has an article that details Apple recognition that “in very rare cases” (about 0.001 percent) said iPods could overheat. Apple is blaming the problem on an unnamed battery supplier. The faulty batteries can, in some instances, overheat, causing “failure and deformation of the iPod Nano.”
